To upgrade the Windows Remote Help client through Intune, use Microsoft Update if it is configured for your environment, deploy the app from the Enterprise App Catalog, or package the installer as a Win32 app. For a catalog app, choose automatic updates when the app has a Required assignment and you do not need to review each release first; use guided update supersedence when you want that review. The right route depends on your assignment model and how much control you need over rollout and recovery.
Choose an update route
| Route | Best fit | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Update | Microsoft Update is configured for your environment. | Microsoft identifies it as an update route for Remote Help. Check your update policies and confirm the client’s behavior in your environment. Microsoft Remote Help deployment guidance |
| Enterprise App Catalog auto-update | The catalog app has a Required assignment for supported Windows devices, and you want Intune to apply newer catalog versions. | No new app or per-release supersedence setup is needed. Auto-update does not provide rollback or automatic uninstall remediation. Microsoft Enterprise App Management documentation |
| Guided update supersedence | You want to review an available catalog update before creating an update app. | The workflow creates a new app that supersedes the old one. Review its assignments and scope tags because some settings might not carry over. Microsoft Enterprise App Management documentation |
| Packaged Win32 app | Your organization manages Remote Help through its own Win32 packaging and deployment process. | Repackage the installer as an .intunewin file, configure install and uninstall commands and detection, then assign the app to the intended device groups. Use Enterprise App Catalog auto-update
Intune auto-update applies to Enterprise App Catalog apps with Required assignments and supports Windows 10 and Windows 11. When Intune detects a newer catalog version, it updates targeted devices. An Available assignment continues through the existing update workflow rather than this auto-update behavior. Microsoft Enterprise App Management documentation

Auto-update is the lower-maintenance option when you are comfortable with Intune applying catalog updates to required deployments. Its limitation matters for change control: it does not provide rollback or automatically uninstall an update as remediation. Keep a manual recovery method available if a release needs to be removed.

Use guided update supersedence when you want to inspect an available catalog version before creating its replacement app. The new app supersedes the existing one; it is not simply an automatic change to the old app. After creation, verify the resulting configuration rather than assuming every setting was inherited.

- Confirm the assignments on the new app, including which device groups are targeted.
- Check scope tags and other relevant app settings, since some may not carry over.
- Confirm the rollout behavior you intend before relying on the supersedence relationship.
Microsoft says most catalog updates are typically available within 24 hours of vendor release, while those requiring manual validation typically become available within seven days. These are service-level objectives, not guarantees; availability depends on the update and catalog process. Microsoft Enterprise App Management documentation
Package and deploy Remote Help as a Win32 app
For the documented manual route, download the Remote Help installer and repackage remotehelpinstaller.exe as an .intunewin file. Microsoft’s deployment page gives these command examples:

- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
- Install:
remotehelpinstaller.exe /quiet acceptTerms=1 - Uninstall:
remotehelpinstaller.exe /uninstall /quiet acceptTerms=1
To opt out of automatic client updates, Microsoft’s example adds enableAutoUpdates=0 as an install argument. The acceptTerms and enableAutoUpdates arguments are case sensitive. Configure detection and the rest of the Win32 app settings using Microsoft’s current deployment instructions; the commands alone are not a complete app configuration. Microsoft Remote Help deployment guidance
Microsoft says the attended client defaults to opting users into automatic updates. Its guidance also says a newer installer can be installed without first uninstalling the earlier version. Confirm how that behavior fits your update policy before choosing a packaging strategy. Microsoft Remote Help deployment guidance

Check licensing and device prerequisites
Before assigning the app, confirm the service and device requirements for your tenant. Microsoft’s planning guidance says each helper and sharer needs a Remote Help license, and Remote Help requires an additional subscription to Intune Plan 1 or Plan 2. It also identifies supported platforms and devices as prerequisites and says Intune-enrolled devices need Microsoft Entra registration. Availability and capabilities can vary by environment, so check the current requirements for your tenant and geography. Microsoft Remote Help planning guidance
Verify the client version before deployment
The Remote Help deployment page displayed version 5.2.1037.0 as its most recent version when the documentation was retrieved. Client versions change, so do not treat that number as current without checking Microsoft’s live deployment page and download details before packaging or rollout.
