Download the DeskJet 2652 software from HP’s official Software and Drivers page, select the exact operating system and version, run the installer, follow its USB or Wi-Fi connection prompts, and print a test page. On Windows 11, the current HP package is usually the most complete route; a Windows built-in driver, HP app setup, Apple AirPrint, or Chromebook setup can be appropriate when HP does not list a downloadable package for your system.
What the DeskJet 2652 driver does
A printer driver translates Windows or another operating system’s print commands into instructions the HP DeskJet 2652 understands. The complete HP software package can also add scanner support, maintenance functions, ink-level reporting, alignment tools, and connection setup. A generic operating-system driver may print successfully but expose fewer of those functions.

Driver maintenance is separate from ink replacement. The DeskJet 2652 is a two-cartridge thermal-inkjet all-in-one. Replacing an HP 65 black or tri-color cartridge will not update software, and installing a driver will not refill an empty cartridge.

Choose the installation route
| Route | Best use | Connection | Feature expectations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official HP software package | Most complete setup for a listed operating system | USB or Wi-Fi, according to the installer | Printing plus any scanning and maintenance features included for that OS; contents can vary by region |
| Windows built-in driver | HP does not offer a package for your exact Windows release, or you need basic printing quickly | USB or network discovery | Usually basic printing; advanced scan and maintenance features may be absent |
| HP app setup | Supported Windows or mobile-style setup experience | USB or Wi-Fi | Guided setup and device management; available functions depend on the operating system and region |
| Apple AirPrint | Printing from a compatible Mac or Apple device without a traditional driver package | Wi-Fi | Printing workflow; it is not a replacement for every HP scan or maintenance feature |
| Chromebook workflow | ChromeOS systems where the printer is supported through the operating system | USB or Wi-Fi | ChromeOS printing and supported scanning functions, rather than the full Windows package |
Update the driver from HP Support
1. Prepare the printer and computer
- Turn on the DeskJet 2652 and wait until it is ready. Load paper so you can print a test page.
- For USB installation, connect the cable only when the installer requests it unless HP’s instructions for your package say otherwise. For Wi-Fi installation, connect the computer to the same network you intend to use for the printer.
- Close documents that are printing and pause or cancel old jobs. A stuck queue can make a successful driver installation appear to fail.
2. Open the exact DeskJet 2652 support page
In a browser on the computer, open HP Support and search for DeskJet 2652 Software and Drivers. Confirm that the page identifies the model as DeskJet 2652, not a visually similar DeskJet series. HP may ask you to choose the operating system and its version; select the values you verified rather than accepting an incorrect automatic detection.
3. Download the offered package
Review the available driver or full-software entries and choose the current package offered for your selected system. If no package is shown, do not install a driver for a different model or an unlisted operating system simply because the file name looks similar. Use the Windows built-in, HP app, AirPrint, or ChromeOS route described above instead.
4. Run the installer
- Open the downloaded file from your browser’s download list or the computer’s Downloads folder.
- Approve the Windows security prompt if it appears, then accept the HP license and setup terms.
- Choose the connection method requested by the wizard. During USB setup, plug in the cable when prompted. During Wi-Fi setup, select the DeskJet 2652 and enter the wireless password if requested.
- Allow the installer to add the printer and any offered scan or maintenance components. Do not shut down the computer while setup is copying files.
- Finish the wizard and restart the computer if it asks you to do so.
5. Print a test page
On Windows 11, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select HP DeskJet 2652, choose Printer properties, and select Print Test Page. Windows 10 uses Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners; select the printer, choose Manage, then Print a test page. Check that text is legible, colors appear, and the printer does not remain offline.

If your package installed scanning support, open the HP scanning function or your operating system’s scan application and make a short preview scan. A successful test print with a missing scanner usually means that only a basic print driver was installed, not that the printer hardware is necessarily defective.
Use Windows’ built-in driver when HP has no package
Windows can sometimes add the DeskJet 2652 without a separate HP download. Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and select Add device. Keep the printer powered on and connected by USB or to the same Wi-Fi network. If Windows finds it, select the device and complete the on-screen installation.
When automatic discovery fails, select the option to add a printer manually. Choose the detected USB port or the appropriate network printer option, then select the DeskJet 2652 from the available model list if it appears. This route is useful for basic printing, but it may not install HP’s scanner interface, alignment controls, ink reporting, or other maintenance tools.
If the printer is not found after updating
Check power, cable, and network
- Confirm that the printer is on and not showing a paper, cartridge, or attention error.
- For USB, try another port and inspect the cable for damage. Avoid an unpowered USB hub while testing.
- For Wi-Fi, verify that the computer and printer are on the same network. A guest network or a router’s client-isolation setting can prevent discovery.
- Restart the printer, computer, and router, then try Add device again.
Remove an obsolete or duplicate queue
In Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, remove duplicate DeskJet 2652 entries that point to an old connection. Add the printer again after the HP installer completes. Give the new queue a clear name so applications do not keep sending jobs to an offline copy.

- ICON LCD – Print your basic documents with ease from the intuitive control panel

Restart the Windows print service
- Press
Windows+R, typeservices.msc, and pressEnter. - Find Print Spooler, right-click it, and choose Restart.
- Close the Services window and retry the test page.
If jobs remain stuck, open the printer queue, cancel every pending document, restart Print Spooler again, and submit one small test document.
Run HP’s diagnostics and troubleshooting guidance
HP provides printer diagnostics and a troubleshooting library covering printer-not-found, Windows-update, and driver-unavailable situations. Use the diagnostic for the exact DeskJet 2652 rather than a generic printer utility. HP may request the product number because a serial number alone may not identify the product. The product number is normally printed on the printer label or its original documentation.
When Windows reports that the driver is unavailable
First, return to the HP page and confirm the selected Windows edition and version. If that release is not listed, HP may not provide a supported package for it. Use Windows’ built-in driver or the HP-supported app route for basic operation, and expect that scanning or maintenance features may be limited. Do not substitute a package for another DeskJet model.
macOS, AirPrint, and Chromebook setup
macOS
For macOS 10.11 El Capitan or macOS 10.12 Sierra, check whether HP provides a model-specific package on the DeskJet 2652 page. If the Mac and printer share Wi-Fi, open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, select +, and choose the DeskJet 2652. On versions that support it, select AirPrint when offered. AirPrint is convenient for printing, while a model-specific HP package may provide additional scan and maintenance functions.

ChromeOS
Connect the Chromebook and printer to the same network, or use USB if supported. In ChromeOS, open Settings > Advanced > Printing > Printers, choose Add printer, and select the DeskJet 2652. ChromeOS handles the supported driver path; a Windows installer cannot be used on a Chromebook.
Confirm the update and keep it stable
- Print one black-text page and one color page. The DeskJet 2652 is rated for up to 5.5 pages per minute in black (ISO, A4) and up to 5.5 pages per minute in color in normal mode; these are HP’s published maximums, not a guarantee for every document.
- Test a scan if you need the all-in-one functions. Printing alone does not prove that scan software was installed.
- Check that the queue shows Ready rather than Offline and that the selected port matches your USB or network connection.
- Create a restore point before replacing a functioning package with an older one. If a new package causes a problem, remove the printer from Printers & scanners, restart Windows, and reinstall the last package that worked for your operating system.
Driver care, ink, and workload limits
The DeskJet 2652 uses two cartridges, so purchase replacement HP 65 black and tri-color cartridges from a listing that matches your region. Cartridge availability and packaging can differ by country; verify the regional HP supplies page before ordering.
HP publishes a maximum monthly duty cycle of 1,000 pages and a recommended monthly volume of 50 to 100 pages. The printer has a 60-sheet input tray and a 25-sheet output tray. Those figures describe the hardware’s intended workload and paper capacity; they do not change when you update the driver. A driver update can improve compatibility or restore missing functions, but it cannot increase the printer’s rated speed, tray capacity, or duty cycle.
When to stop troubleshooting
If the printer remains undiscoverable after you verify power, connection, queue, operating-system selection, and HP diagnostics, test it with a second computer or a direct USB connection. If it fails there as well, the issue may be hardware, wireless configuration, or a cartridge or paper error rather than a driver. Record the exact message, operating system, connection type, and product number before contacting HP support; those details let support distinguish an unavailable package from a device fault.
Quick Recap
As an optional shortcut for driver-related work, Outbyte Driver Updater scans more than 100 devices for outdated, corrupted, or missing drivers, installs only official drivers, shows current and recommended versions, and offers driver backup, restore, and scheduled scans. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7 with a two-day free trial and no credit card, followed by a subscription; results vary and no utility repairs every printer-discovery problem.
