As of October 7, 2026, GTA VI has not been released on PS5, so there is no live game update to install yet. Rockstar lists the release date as November 19, 2026, with digital pre-orders scheduled to begin preloading at local midnight on November 12. Once the game is available, the standard PS5 update path is Options > Check for Update. If a download or installation fails, troubleshoot the network, available storage, or the specific error code rather than assuming every failure has the same cause.
GTA VI release and preload dates for PS5
Rockstar Games’ support article, last updated August 18, 2026, lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PS5 and schedules its release for November 19, 2026. Rockstar says digital pre-orders may begin preloading at local midnight on November 12, 2026. These are the dates Rockstar publishes as of October 7, 2026; check its platforms, editions, and versions article for any later changes.

Rockstar also says the announced physical Standard Edition is a box containing a download code, not a disc. It recommends buying and playing from a retailer in the same country as the platform account because code redemption is tied to account region. The code-in-box format means installation still requires downloading the game.

How to check for a PS5 game update
- On the PS5 home screen, highlight the game or app.
- Press the controller’s Options button.
- Select Check for Update and follow the on-screen prompts if an update is available.
PlayStation also says starting a game or app automatically updates it to the newest version available. To configure automatic downloads and installs, follow PlayStation’s automatic updates guide. For updates while the console is in Rest Mode, it must remain connected to the internet.

Fix a PS5 update that will not start or finish
Start with the basic checks, then use the displayed error code to choose a more specific remedy. PlayStation’s PS5 error-code index distinguishes update installation, network, and storage failures.
- Go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection and check the result.
- Restart the PS5 and try the update again.
- Install the latest PS5 system software.
- If the update still fails, delete the game and reinstall it from the Game Library or, for a disc game, from the disc.
- If the problem remains, use PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions to select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database. Do not interrupt system operations. Contact PlayStation Support if the official steps do not resolve it.
For example, PlayStation identifies CE-120706-6 as an update installation failure, NP-102947-3 as an internet connection that is too slow or unstable for an update, and CE-100028-1 as insufficient free SSD space. These codes point to different problems; use the page for the exact code shown on your console.
Fix a download that stops or fails
Error CE-107928-7
PlayStation’s remedy for CE-107928-7 is to delete the affected game from the home screen and try downloading it again. Do not turn off the console during the download. If the error continues, test the connection at Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection, reset network settings if needed, and power off the modem or router for five minutes before restarting it. Follow the current instructions on PlayStation’s CE-107928-7 support page.

Error CE-107527-2
For CE-107527-2, PlayStation recommends restarting the console, using a wired connection if possible, and reconfiguring the network connection. On Wi-Fi, move the PS5 closer to the router and reduce interference; restart the router after leaving it powered off for five minutes. If failed game data appears under Settings > Storage, delete the game and download it again. See PlayStation’s CE-107527-2 support page for its current steps.
Fix a download blocked by storage space
CE-107872-5 means there is not enough free space on console storage to download or copy content. Check Settings > Storage, remove content you no longer need, and retry. PlayStation’s general update guidance also advises keeping enough room for update data.
Rockstar has not published a GTA VI PS5 install-size requirement in the official material reviewed for this guide. Do not rely on an unofficial size estimate to decide how much space to clear; check Rockstar’s current listing and the PS5’s own storage prompt when the game becomes available. PlayStation’s CE-107872-5 support page explains the error.

Fix content that will not install
For CE-107891-6, PlayStation advises uninstalling the affected content and reinstalling it. Go to Settings > Storage, select the storage location, delete the affected game, then reinstall it. If installation still fails, PlayStation says to try again later. Its current instructions are on the CE-107891-6 support page.
If the console instead shows CE-120706-6, treat it as an update installation failure and follow the instructions for that exact code in PlayStation’s error-code index. Do not assume the content-installation remedy applies to every installation-related code.
When to contact PlayStation Support
Use the exact error code and its PlayStation support page first. If the documented steps fail, contact PlayStation Support with the code and a clear description of whether the issue occurs while checking for an update, downloading data, freeing storage, or installing content. GTA VI-specific PS5 troubleshooting fixes are not established in the official information available as of October 7, 2026, so general PS5 guidance is the appropriate starting point until Rockstar or PlayStation publishes game-specific instructions.
