There is no single safe vBIOS updater for every AMD Radeon RX 7000 card. First identify the card’s exact manufacturer, model and revision, then check that manufacturer’s official support page and follow the instructions for that exact card. Do not use firmware for a different model or assume an update listed by one brand applies to another.
What a graphics-card vBIOS update is—and isn’t
A graphics-card vBIOS update changes firmware on the graphics card. It is different from updating the graphics driver, which installs software for Windows to use with the card. AMD’s Radeon RX 7000 driver page describes its detection tool as identifying the graphics-card model and Windows version to offer a compatible driver package; that is not a universal vBIOS flasher.

It is also different from updating the motherboard’s system firmware, often called the BIOS. Instructions for a motherboard BIOS are not instructions for a graphics-card vBIOS.

Before updating, identify the exact card
“RX 7000” is a GPU family, not enough information to determine which firmware belongs on a particular card. Record the card’s board manufacturer, full retail model name and any revision or SKU shown on its label or product page. Then go to that manufacturer’s official support page and find the exact model.

AMD directs owners of OEM and add-in-board products to the manufacturer for product-specific support. Its product security guidance is not a flashing procedure, but it supports the key practical rule: use the card maker’s guidance for its product.
- Match the full model and any listed revision or SKU—not just the GPU chip or series name.
- Download firmware and instructions only from the card maker’s official page for that model.
- If no matching update or instructions are listed, contact the manufacturer’s support rather than trying a similar-looking package.
Check whether an update is actually available for your model
Firmware availability is manufacturer- and model-specific. As of October 3, 2026, SAPPHIRE’s official Drivers and Firmware page lists separate firmware updaters and an installation guide for affected SAPPHIRE RX 7600, RX 7600 XT, RX 7650 GRE, RX 7700 XT, RX 7800 XT, RX 7900 GRE, RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX cards. SAPPHIRE describes its listed update as a security improvement identified in partnership with AMD.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- Dual-ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as standard conventional sleeve bearings designs
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
That listing is evidence for the SAPPHIRE products it names only. It does not establish that the update applies to AMD reference cards or cards made by ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, XFX or another manufacturer. Check your own card maker’s page; do not cross-flash a package because the GPU family or model name looks similar.

There is no established universal sequence, operating-system requirement, backup method, command-line tool or recovery procedure for every RX 7000 card. The steps and supported software may differ by manufacturer and model, so use the guide linked to the exact firmware release. For a SAPPHIRE model on its affected-products list, start with the installation guide on its firmware page.

- Confirm that the support page names your exact card model and, where applicable, its revision or SKU.
- Read the manufacturer’s instructions and any release-specific notes before starting. Confirm the required tool and operating system from those instructions.
- Use only the firmware package and updater linked from that official page. Do not substitute a third-party image or another model’s package.
- Follow the manufacturer’s stated procedure. If the instructions do not clearly match your card or situation, stop and ask the manufacturer’s support team before proceeding.
What not to assume about dual BIOS or recovery
Some cards have a BIOS-mode selector, but that feature is not universal and does not by itself establish a safe recovery path. SAPPHIRE says TriXX can select BIOS modes for NITRO+ RX 7000, RX 6000 and RX 5000 series cards through its VBIOS section. That supports mode selection on those specified cards; it does not show that every RX 7000 card has a switch, that a second firmware image remains untouched during an update, or that the feature guarantees recovery.
If a card stops initializing after an update, there is no universal recovery method established for RX 7000 cards. Contact the card maker through its official support channel and follow its model-specific advice. Do not improvise with firmware from another card or generic hardware-programmer instructions.

Keep support and warranty questions with the right manufacturer
AMD’s warranty document distinguishes AMD-branded cards from third-party-branded add-in-board products. It does not establish that a vBIOS update voids a warranty, so do not infer a warranty outcome from the fact that firmware was updated. Check the warranty terms and support route for the company that made your card.
