In the Messages conversation, touch and hold the message bubble containing the photo, then tap Undo Send. You have up to two minutes after sending. Apple documents unsending messages generally, rather than a separate photo-only procedure, so applying the steps to a photo means unsending the message bubble that contains it.

Open the Messages conversation where you sent the photo.

Look in the conversation for the notice confirming the message was unsent.

Apple says unsending removes the message from the recipient’s device, and a notice appears in both conversation transcripts. It does not establish that the recipient had not already viewed or captured the photo. Apple’s unsending instructions
Check the time limit and compatibility
Apple’s stated window is up to two minutes after sending. The feature requires iMessage and supported Apple operating systems: Apple lists iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, and macOS 13 or later. Undo Send does not work for SMS, MMS, or RCS messages. Before relying on it, check that the conversation is using iMessage.

Apple explains deletion separately from unsending in its Messages deletion instructions. If your goal is to retract a sent photo, use Undo Send rather than simply deleting it from your own conversation.
