To open Genus Insight in Aion 2, complete the main-story quest All Geared Up as Elyos or Gathering Essentials as Asmodian. Then open Pets from the game menu and select Genus Insight. Unlock the Genus Insight screen
- Advance the main story. Independent game guides list All Geared Up as the Elyos quest and Gathering Essentials as the Asmodian quest that make the Pets menu available. Quest labels and implementation can vary by region or change with updates, so check your current quest log if the name does not match what you see.
- Open Pets. Once the menu is available, open it from the game menu.
- Select Genus Insight. This opens the system’s screen. You may still see genus boards that are unavailable because you do not yet own a mount associated with them.
The story quest is the gate to the Pets menu; it is not described as a separate quest for each board. If you have completed the relevant story step but cannot find the tab, first confirm that you are looking in Pets rather than expecting Genus Insight to appear as a standalone menu. If the menu or quest name differs in your region, use the current in-game quest log and menu labels as the final reference.
Unlock an individual genus board
Own at least one mount belonging to the genus whose board you want to open. The screen and the boards have separate unlock conditions: completing the story quest opens the menu, while collecting a genus-specific mount makes that genus board available.

Aion 2 has five genus boards: Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, and Special. Each board progresses separately. Unlocking one does not mean the others are open or have advanced to the same level.
This distinction is useful when planning what to collect. If the Genus Insight screen is visible but a particular category is still unavailable, the next step is not to repeat the story quest or keep analyzing a different board. Obtain a mount belonging to the genus you want to access. Conversely, owning a mount from one genus does not meet the stated unlock requirement for all five boards.
The requirement described by current guides is ownership of at least one mount from the relevant genus. They do not establish a requirement to own every mount in that genus. Nor does the information establish that unlocking a genus board automatically gives it board levels, opens all its lines, or grants a preferred stat roll. Treat board access, board progression, and the results of analysis as separate milestones.

Genus Insight is a board of rerollable stat lines. Each board has nine lines, which become available one at a time as the board reaches levels 1 through 9. Level 10 does not add a tenth line; it improves the quality of the rolls available on the board. These mechanics and figures are reported by the current reference guide Corpus.
Board EXP comes from two kinds of pet progression: Pet Insight level-ups and Genus Insight analysis. Collecting a new pet can also grant EXP to its genus board. In practical terms, collecting and developing pets can advance the board, while analysis both changes its available lines and contributes to progression.
Think of the board as a genus-specific progression track rather than a single account-wide pool of stat lines. The five categories have their own access and progress: a mount opens its associated board, then actions that grant that board EXP advance it. The reported line schedule means the first board level opens the first line, and each subsequent level through level 9 opens another. Reaching level 10 is still meaningful, but its reported benefit is improved roll quality rather than an extra line.

That distinction affects how to interpret the board while it is leveling. Early on, fewer lines are open, and the board has not reached the level-10 roll-quality improvement. A result that looks worth preserving at an early stage should be weighed against the fact that later progression changes the quality of rolls available and locking makes analysis more expensive. There is no need to treat every early result as final.

- Pet Insight: progression for an individual pet. Current guides describe a global cap of level 3. After unlocking a pet, the reported requirement is 25 additional souls to reach level 2, then another 75 to reach level 3. Pet Insight level-ups also contribute Genus Insight board EXP.
- Genus Insight: the separate genus board, where analysis rerolls stat lines. Its levels determine how many lines are open and, at level 10, improve roll quality.
The soul requirements above are figures reported by Corpus, not a promise that every region or later game version will use identical values. Check the in-game requirements shown for your pet.
These systems are related, but they answer different questions. Collecting a mount can satisfy the access condition for its genus board; collecting a new pet can also grant board EXP. Pet Insight describes the level of an individual pet, with the cited guide reporting level 3 as its cap. Genus Insight describes the board attached to the genus and the stat lines available there. A Pet Insight level-up can help the board, but it does not replace owning a mount of the correct genus when that board is still locked.
The cited Pet Insight figures are incremental after the pet has been unlocked: 25 additional souls for level 2, then 75 more for level 3. Do not read the 75 as the total cost from unlock to level 3. Those values are guide-reported figures, and the practical check is the requirement displayed for the particular pet in your game version.
Analysis costs and when to lock a line
Analysis rerolls the board’s available stat lines. Corpus reports a basic cost of 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina per analysis. Locking a line preserves it for the next analysis, but raises the cost of subsequent analyses. Wikily.gg reports a cost of up to 396 Soul Crystals and 99,000 Kina when eight lines are locked. These are current guide-reported game costs; confirm the displayed price before spending, since costs and mechanics may change.

The figures make the trade-off clear. The base price applies to an ordinary analysis without locked lines, while locking is a decision to pay more on later analyses in exchange for retaining a result. With eight lines locked, the reported price is far above the basic 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina. The highest quoted figure is specifically associated with eight locked lines; it should not be treated as the cost of every analysis or as a guaranteed price in every region.

Two current independent guides advise against locking ordinary results while a board is still leveling. Analysis helps the board progress, and locking lines makes later analyses more expensive; better grades become available as the board advances. Waiting until level 10 can therefore avoid paying a premium to preserve a result before the board has reached its reported roll-quality improvement.
This is a resource-management recommendation, not a hard rule that locking is forbidden before level 10. If a particular result is unusually important to your plan, you can decide that preserving it is worth the higher subsequent cost. The point is to make that choice deliberately: compare the value of keeping the line with the increased price displayed for the next analysis, and remember that additional board progression may improve the available roll quality.
- Use analysis while the board is progressing. It rerolls the available lines and is also reported to contribute board EXP. Check the cost displayed before each attempt, rather than assuming every analysis remains at the base price.
- Avoid locking merely because an early line is usable. An unlocked line can be rerolled, but a locked one raises the price of later analyses. Before locking, ask whether keeping that exact result now matters more than preserving your Soul Crystals and Kina for later attempts.

One current guide suggests considering line 4 first for offensive effects after a board reaches level 10. That is a starting point, not a universal best roll: the useful line depends on the genus, your build, and whether you prioritize a particular kind of content. The available evidence does not establish a single ideal set of lines for every character.
There is no meaningful universal ranking of the five boards or of every possible line in this system. The relevant comparisons are the genus board you have opened, the line you want, how that line fits your build and content focus, and the rising price of protecting results. If your focus is offensive effects, line 4 is a reasonable place to inspect according to the cited guide, but that does not establish that line 4 is best for every genus or that it should be locked automatically.
Genus Insight sharing across characters
In a roadmap announcement dated January 7, 2026, NCsoft said Genus Insight and pet ownership were changing from per-character to server-wide sharing. The announcement says the highest Genus Insight value among characters on the same server is used, while pet levels are aggregated across those characters.
This is a server-level sharing claim, not a statement that characters on different servers share progress. The details in NCsoft’s announcement distinguish the highest Genus Insight value among characters on a server from the aggregation of pet levels. They should not be collapsed into the broader assumption that every character has identical individual progress or that every item and pet-related system is shared in the same way.

The announcement establishes NCsoft’s stated sharing change, but current implementation may differ by region. If you are deciding which character should collect a mount or develop a pet, check the current in-game behavior on your server rather than assuming characters share everything in the same way everywhere. In particular, verify the behavior if the decision depends on whether a mount is owned by one character or whether a board value is being drawn from the highest value across your server’s characters.

For a player with several characters, the practical takeaway is to check the server and region rules before repeating effort.
