To unlock F-Zero GX’s pilots, parts, cups, and tracks, progress through Grand Prix and Story Mode, then check the F-ZERO Shop: some rewards must be purchased with F-ZERO Tickets after you meet their unlock condition. “Every machine” can mean fixed pilot-and-craft entries, the parts used to build custom craft, or every possible combination—these are different completion goals.
What “every machine” means in F-Zero GX
GX lets you customize a craft with parts earned through play. Nintendo’s 2003 description gives a figure of 8,000 possible vehicle combinations when additional parts from F-Zero AC are included; that is a count of possible builds, not 8,000 separate machines to unlock. Another walkthrough summarizes Master as winning all four cups on Expert, so treat the precise sequence as guide-sourced and confirm it in your game.

The same community guide lists parts for repeated cup completions and for specific cup and difficulty milestones. In particular, it associates some parts with clearing Diamond on Expert or Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald on Expert. The booklet confirms that Grand Prix is one of the modes that earns tickets, but does not provide a complete reward checklist.

Story Mode: chapter clears and difficulty-specific rewards
Story Mode is the route for chapter-specific rewards. Community tables associate some machine-part sets with clearing individual chapters on Hard and list AX pilots for Very Hard chapter clears, often one pilot per chapter. They also list Magic Seagull for clearing all chapters on Hard. These are distinct conditions: completing Story Mode once does not satisfy every chapter- and difficulty-specific unlock.
F-ZERO Shop: buy rewards with tickets
The instruction booklet says the shop sells new machine parts and items for F-ZERO Tickets earned in Grand Prix, Time Attack, and Story modes. For any shop-listed reward, unlocking availability and acquiring the item are separate steps: earn the required milestone, then visit the shop and spend tickets.

Do you have to play F-Zero AX?
No arcade cabinet is established as mandatory for GX’s unlock route. Community guides describe GX challenges that unlock AX-associated pilots, parts, and tracks. They also describe a historical alternative: playing F-Zero AX and using a GameCube memory card to transfer some content into GX. Nintendo confirms the historical arcade connection and transfer concept, but arcade availability depends on whether a working cabinet can be accessed locally.

A practical route to work through
- Start with Grand Prix. Win cups to open further cup and class milestones, and earn tickets. Confirm the unlock prompt in your game rather than relying on a single guide’s wording for Master progression.
- Clear Story chapters at the listed difficulties. Work through chapter-specific Hard rewards, then return on Very Hard for pilot unlocks described by the guides.
- Check the F-ZERO Shop after milestones. Spend tickets on rewards that have become available; a condition being met does not necessarily mean the item is already in your garage.
- Use AX arcade transfer only if practical. It is a historical alternate route, not a prerequisite to attempt the GX challenges.
- Define your finish line. Track pilots, parts, tracks, and custom builds separately; the 8,000-combination figure includes additional AC parts.
How reliable are the exact unlock conditions?
The instruction booklet supports the mode, ticket, and shop structure, and Nintendo’s publisher description supports the customization and GX/AC relationship. Neither gives a complete item-by-item unlock table. Exact chapter, cup, and difficulty requirements above are attributed to community-contributed GameFAQs guides; one Master Class summary differs between guides, so check the in-game progression in your version before treating that detail as definitive.
