Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteIf your Samsung washer has no power and its door is locked, don’t force it. On a front-loader with an emergency drain hose, draining trapped water may let the door unlock. The hose and procedure are model-dependent, though, and some older front-loaders do not have one.
Why a Samsung washer door may stay locked
- Water remains in the drum. A front-loader may keep the door locked to prevent water from spilling out.
- The drum is hot. A lock may remain engaged after a hot wash, drying, or spin cycle to reduce the risk of injury. Samsung advises against forcing the door while these operations are underway. Samsung Gulf’s locked-door guidance lists heat among possible causes.
- Child Lock is active. Some models may keep the door locked while this setting is on. The buttons used to change it vary by model, so check the washer’s manual rather than trying a guessed combination.
- The washer needs time after an interruption. Samsung says some top-load models interrupted by a power loss may take up to five minutes to unlock and resume. That timing is not a guarantee for every model.
- A drain or lock fault may be present. If the water is gone but the door remains locked after the model-specific steps, Samsung recommends requesting service.
Drain trapped water if your front-loader has an emergency hose
Use this procedure only if the manual for your exact model confirms an emergency drain hose. The location and layout vary, and some older front-load washers do not have a pump filter or emergency hose. Samsung’s US guidance for a washer that will not unlock explains these model differences.

- Find the model number and check the manual. Confirm that your washer has an emergency drain hose and identify the correct access point. Do not assume that a release latch or hose is present.
- Switch the washer off and unplug it. Samsung UK’s emergency-drain instructions say to power off and unplug the machine before draining.
- Prepare to catch the water. Put towels and flat containers beside the lower filter cover. Use containers that fit the space and can be emptied safely.
- Drain slowly. Open the filter cover carefully. Pull out the emergency drain tube while holding its cap, then remove the cap and let the water flow into a container. Re-cap and stow the tube when draining is complete.
- Try the power cycle Samsung specifies. After draining, turn the washer off and back on. Samsung says the door should then unlock. If it does not, stop and request service instead of pulling on the door.
If there is no emergency drain hose—or the washer is a top-loader
Do not improvise by prying at the door, removing panels, or reaching for an assumed manual release. Some older front-loaders lack the emergency hose, and top-load designs differ. Follow the exact model manual or contact Samsung support for guidance specific to the washer. For some top-load models interrupted during a cycle, Samsung says unlocking and resuming may take up to five minutes; wait that long before treating the delay as a fault.

Request Samsung support or qualified appliance service if the model has no documented emergency drain procedure, the safe drain-and-restart steps do not release the door, or the washer appears to have a drain or lock fault. Keep the door closed if water may still be inside; forcing it can cause a spill or injury.
