Identify the kind of lock on your Galaxy A12

If you forgot the screen PIN, pattern, or password
Try a recovery method that was configured before lockout
Check whether an eligible remote-unlock or previous-screen-lock recovery option was set up before you lost access. Samsung documents recovery using a previous screen lock for supported situations, but it is not available on every Galaxy A12: availability depends on prior configuration and support eligibility. Follow Samsung’s instructions for unlocking with your previous screen lock method. Do not assume that signing into an account or inserting a different SIM will reveal or bypass the forgotten screen credential.

If no recovery option works, check backups before a factory reset
Samsung says that if you are locked out and have not set up a remote-unlock method, you will need to perform a factory reset. A reset erases data stored locally on the phone. Before proceeding, consider whether photos, contacts, files, and other important information are backed up. Afterward, restore from available backups during setup. Use Samsung’s current reset instructions for your device and region rather than relying on an unverified button sequence.

If the phone asks for a SIM PIN or PUK
A SIM PIN or PUK protects the SIM card; it is not the Galaxy A12’s screen password and does not remove a carrier network restriction. Contact the provider that issued the SIM and ask for the correct code. Avoid repeated guesses: the SIM provider can advise on the code and next steps for that card. Samsung’s Galaxy support index distinguishes SIM-related issues from unlocking the physical device; the exact support page varies by A12 model and region.
If a new carrier’s SIM triggers a network unlock prompt
A network lock limits a handset to its original network. For a message such as “SIM network unlock PIN,” contact the carrier that originally supplied or locked the phone and ask about its eligibility criteria and unlock process. Samsung says network-lock guidance should come from the mobile service provider. Eligibility, any charges, and timing depend on the carrier, country, account, and handset variant; Samsung’s general guidance cannot establish your account’s status.

Have the original carrier, country, and exact model number ready when you contact the provider. A factory reset is not an established way to remove a carrier restriction, and accessories or third-party unlock tools are not a substitute for the carrier’s authorized process.
If the A12 is frozen rather than locked by a forgotten code
For a temporarily unresponsive device, Samsung says a soft reset may resolve some unlocking issues. Hold the Power and Volume Down buttons until the display turns black and the Samsung logo appears. This restarts the phone; it does not recover an unknown screen PIN or make a network-locked handset eligible for another carrier.

Check the exact Galaxy A12 model and region
Galaxy A12 support pages cover multiple regional variants. Check the model number in the phone’s packaging, purchase records, or carrier account before following model-specific guidance. For example, Samsung Canada’s support index identifies the SM-A125W variant, while other regions may use different model identifiers. Instructions or support availability for one variant should not be assumed to apply to every A12.
