Back up Wacom preferences first: Wacom warns that uninstalling removes them. If the normal uninstall leaves Wacom files behind, use Wacom’s separate manual-cleanup procedure rather than deleting other system files.
Before uninstalling: disconnect the tablet and protect your preferences
Save open work, back up your Wacom preferences, and make sure you have access to an administrator account. Wacom’s general Windows procedure does not provide separate Windows 10 and Windows 11 walkthroughs, so menu wording or navigation may vary. If you cannot find a setting, use Windows search for “Control Panel” or “Programs and Features.”

Disconnect the device according to its connection type:
- USB: Unplug the tablet’s cable.
- Wireless Kit: Remove the USB dongle.
- Bluetooth: Turn off the tablet and the computer’s Bluetooth connection.
- Pen Computer: Skip the disconnect step.
These precautions follow Wacom’s Windows uninstall and reinstall instructions, which also warn that preferences are removed.

Remove the Wacom software through Programs and Features
- Open Control Panel, then select Programs and Features. If you do not see the option, search for “Programs and Features” from the Windows taskbar.
- In the installed-program list, uninstall entries named Tablet, Wacom Tablet, or Bamboo, as applicable to your installation.
- Restart the computer when the uninstall is complete.
This is Wacom’s standard removal route. Use manual cleanup only if the normal uninstall leaves files behind.
If you are removing the driver to reinstall it
After uninstalling and restarting, find the driver for your exact tablet model on Wacom’s driver support page. Driver compatibility is model-specific, particularly for older products, so check the current listing for your device rather than choosing a driver based on a generic version number.

- Download and run the installer that matches your Wacom model.
- Allow the installer to restart the computer if prompted.
- Reconnect the tablet after installation is complete.
Wacom recommends connecting the device directly to the computer. A USB hub, keyboard or monitor port, or docking station can cause inconsistent behavior.

Use manual cleanup only when files remain
Wacom publishes a separate manual driver-removal procedure for leftover files. It begins with uninstalling Wacom entries and restarting, then checking for listed remnants. This is a more involved option than the standard uninstall.

Wacom’s examples of locations and items to inspect include:
C:Program FilesTablet- User-profile folders such as

wactempfolder - Named Wacom files under
C:WindowsSystem32 - Folders left by older Bamboo software
Some locations may be hidden; Wacom’s instructions explain how to show hidden system folders. Follow its article for the exact items to remove. Delete only the listed Wacom leftovers—not other files in those locations—and make sure you have administrator access. Manual removal can also result in preference loss, so preserve settings before starting.

If the Wacom driver stopped or is not responding
An uninstall is not the first step for every driver problem. For “tablet driver stopped” or “tablet driver is not running” messages, Wacom identifies the Wacom Professional Service as a possible factor. Its guidance starts with restarting the computer; if the message persists, uninstall and reinstall the current driver as described above.
For a driver that is not responding, Wacom’s troubleshooting guidance also discusses checking for Windows updates, testing the driver in a newly created administrator account, and configuring recovery options for the Wacom Professional Service if other steps fail.
