How to Uninstall ExpressVPN on Windows and Mac

Use Windows Settings or Control Panel, or uninstall ExpressVPN from Profile > Actions on Mac. A leftover Windows VPN connection and subscription cancellation require separate steps.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To uninstall ExpressVPN, use Windows’ Installed apps or Control Panel, or choose Profile > Actions > Uninstall ExpressVPN in the Mac app. If Windows still lists an ExpressVPN VPN connection afterward, remove that connection separately. Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription.

Uninstall ExpressVPN on Windows 11

ExpressVPN’s Windows uninstall instructions, last updated September 3, 2026, cover Windows 11 and Windows 10. On Windows 11, use any of these routes:

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

  • Start menu: Find ExpressVPN in Start, right-click it, and choose Uninstall. In Installed apps, open the menu beside ExpressVPN and choose Uninstall.
  • Settings: Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Find ExpressVPN, open its menu, and choose Uninstall.
  • Control Panel: Search for and open Control Panel, select Programs and Features, select ExpressVPN, and choose Uninstall.

Follow any prompts shown by Windows. ExpressVPN also documents the Settings and Control Panel routes in its uninstall guide and Windows setup guide.

Uninstall ExpressVPN on Windows 10

  • Settings: Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features, find ExpressVPN, and choose Uninstall.
  • Control Panel: Open Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program, right-click ExpressVPN, choose Uninstall, and follow the prompts.

Remove a remaining ExpressVPN connection in Windows

If the app is uninstalled but an ExpressVPN connection remains listed, ExpressVPN’s guide gives these separate cleanup steps:

#1 Best Overall
  1. Press Windows key + R, type ncpa.cpl, and press Enter to open Network Connections.
  2. Right-click the WAN Miniport labeled ExpressVPN and choose Delete.
  3. Open Settings > Network & Internet > VPN. If an ExpressVPN entry is still listed, delete that entry.

Delete only the ExpressVPN items described above, not unrelated adapters or VPN connections. See the ExpressVPN uninstall instructions for the vendor’s full procedure.

Uninstall ExpressVPN on a Mac

The documented Mac method starts inside the ExpressVPN app. Open it, then follow these steps:

  1. Choose Profile.
  2. Scroll to Actions and choose Uninstall ExpressVPN.
  3. Confirm by choosing Uninstall.
  4. Enter your Mac password if prompted, then select Install Helper.

ExpressVPN says the app is then uninstalled. Its guide does not provide a manual folder-by-folder removal procedure, so these steps should not be taken as a claim that every possible residual file has been removed. The instructions are in ExpressVPN’s Mac setup and support guide, last updated September 28, 2026.

If ExpressVPN will not uninstall on Windows

For an incomplete uninstall or Windows Installer error 1721, ExpressVPN recommends checking Windows’ app list first:

  1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps and try to uninstall ExpressVPN there.
  2. If ExpressVPN is missing or still cannot be removed, follow the on-screen guidance Windows 11 offers, if available. For Windows 10, use Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter, as directed by ExpressVPN.
  3. Check Installed apps again after using the applicable recovery option.

See ExpressVPN’s guidance for an incomplete uninstall. It does not recommend substituting an unverified third-party cleaner.

Uninstalling for troubleshooting, updating, or a clean reinstall

If ExpressVPN is failing to load or responding, its troubleshooting sequence is to uninstall the app, restart the device, download the latest app, reinstall it, and try launching it. That restart-and-reinstall sequence is for troubleshooting a faulty app; it is not an extra requirement for routine removal. Follow the steps in ExpressVPN’s app-not-responding guide.

Uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription

Removing ExpressVPN from a device does not stop subscription renewal. ExpressVPN says cancellation depends on where you purchased the subscription: use the app store or ExpressVPN’s website as applicable. Cancellation cannot be done inside the app. Follow the steps in its subscription cancellation guide, last updated September 29, 2026.
