Open any text field with your LG remote, wait for the on-screen keyboard, select the Shift (up-arrow) key, then select the letter you want. You don’t need a separate keyboard to type capitals. The exact key position and behavior vary by model, app and webOS version.
Steps to type a capital letter with the remote
- Use the remote’s pointer or directional buttons to highlight a text field (a search box, password field or login form) and press OK/Wheel to select it.
- Wait for the on-screen keyboard. LG’s developer documentation says the webOS virtual keyboard loads automatically when an input field is focused (LG webOS TV Developer, “Virtual Keyboard”).
- Look for a Shift or uppercase key, usually shown as an up arrow. Select it with the remote, then select the letter.
- If the key switches the layout (for example to symbols) instead of capitalizing, look at the other visible keys. App keyboards are not guaranteed to match the system keyboard.
What varies between TVs and apps
LG’s official pages confirm the on-screen keyboard, but the sources I reviewed don’t document one universal capitalization key. I can’t confirm the icon, how many presses it takes, or whether a caps-lock mode exists on your set. Identify the key by the label or symbol on your screen. If you’re unsure, check your model’s user guide. Instructions for LG phones don’t apply to TVs.

Optional: use a USB keyboard
For long text, a physical keyboard is easier. LG says a wired USB keyboard can plug directly into the TV, and a wireless one can use its USB receiver. Its listed compatible examples are Logitech K360, K400, K750 and LG MKS-1200. LG also warns that some apps may not accept external keyboard input, and that wireless conditions and TV model differences can limit use (LG USA Support). Check your exact model and the app you want to type in before buying.

With a physical keyboard, Shift works as on a computer. If the on-screen keyboard disappears after using it, select the input field again with the remote to bring it back.
