To turn on your iPhone flashlight without unlocking it, wake the screen and press and hold the Flashlight button in the lower-left corner of the Lock Screen, if it appears. If the button is missing, use Control Center instead.
Turn on the flashlight from the Lock Screen
- Wake your iPhone screen without unlocking it.
- Press and hold the Flashlight button in the lower-left corner of the Lock Screen. The flashlight turns on; press and hold the control again to turn it off. Apple notes that this button is available only on iPhones that show it. Apple’s Lock Screen instructions explain the control.
If the Lock Screen flashlight button is missing
Use Control Center
- Open Control Center. On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the upper-right corner. On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom edge.
- Tap Flashlight to turn it on. Tap it again to turn it off. Apple’s flashlight guide documents these gestures and controls.
Add Flashlight to Control Center if needed
If Flashlight is not in Control Center, add it in Settings > Control Center, or customize the controls while Control Center is open. The exact customization steps can vary by iOS version.

Assign the Action button
If your iPhone has an Action button, open Settings > Action Button and choose Flashlight. Press and hold the Action button to toggle the flashlight. This option is limited to supported models; Apple’s controls overview lists compatible iPhones, including iPhone 17e, iPhone 16e, and iPhone 15 Pro models.

Adjust flashlight brightness
With the flashlight on, open Control Center and press and hold the Flashlight control to show the brightness slider. Drag the slider to set the brightness. Apple also documents adjusting brightness from the on-screen flashlight control when available. Apple’s flashlight guide describes the slider.
