To enable text prediction for a physical keyboard in Windows 11, open Settings > Time & language > Typing > Hardware keyboard and turn on Show text suggestions as I type. For the touch keyboard, enable its separate software-keyboard text-suggestions option on the Typing page.
Turn on suggestions for a physical keyboard
- Open Settings.
- Select Time & language > Typing.
- Expand Hardware keyboard.
- Turn on Show text suggestions as I type.
Windows lists suggestions based on recognized languages and physical-keyboard autocorrect as separate, optional controls on the Typing page. They are not prerequisites for text suggestions. The exact labels or layout can vary by Windows release, language, and input setup; if you cannot find the control, search Settings for text suggestions. Enable suggestions for the touch keyboard
Go to Settings > Time & language > Typing and turn on the text-suggestions option for the software keyboard. This setting is separate from the hardware-keyboard switch, so enable the one that matches how you type. Related options include adding a space after accepting a suggestion and other touch-keyboard behavior.

These controls are grouped in the Windows Typing settings, but enabling autocorrect or spelling indicators is not the same as turning on prediction.

What inking and typing personalization controls
Inking & typing personalization appears under Settings > Privacy & security, alongside a custom dictionary. Pen-related handwriting-panel preferences are grouped under Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink. These are related input settings, but their location alone does not establish that changing personalization controls whether suggestions appear or explain a specific data flow or privacy effect.

Some applications have their own suggestion switch in addition to Windows keyboard settings. In OneNote, open File > Options > Advanced and select Show text suggestions while typing. Microsoft says available predictions appear as greyed text and can be accepted with Tab. This is OneNote’s setting, not the Windows-wide hardware-keyboard control.
