What Reduce Motion changes
iPhone uses motion effects to create a sense of depth on the Home Screen and in apps. With Reduce Motion enabled, selected effects change or stop; it does not guarantee that every animation in every app will disappear.

Some screen transitions use a dissolve instead of zoom or slide effects.

Parallax movement is disabled. This is the slight shifting of wallpaper, app icons, and alerts when you tilt the iPhone.

Animations in some apps may be disabled. Apple gives animated weather conditions in the Weather app as an example.

Apple’s Reduce screen motion on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch explains these effects. The current User Guide also lists areas such as Siri animations, typing autocompletion, animated Messages effects, and animated images on the web and in apps as motion effects users can customize. Their behavior depends on the relevant controls; the Reduce Motion switch is not a promise to suppress every movement.

Auto-Play Message Effects
Animated full-screen and bubble effects in Messages have a separate Auto-Play Message Effects control. If you turn it off, you can still play an effect manually by tapping Replay below the message bubble. See Apple’s iPhone User Guide for the motion options.

Vehicle Motion Cues
Vehicle Motion Cues, also under Settings > Accessibility > Motion, is not another name for Reduce Motion. It displays animated cues intended to help reduce motion sickness while you ride in a car or other on-road vehicle, and can be set to turn on automatically when iPhone detects that you are riding in a vehicle. Reduce Motion instead changes selected interface effects. Apple describes Vehicle Motion Cues in its iPhone User Guide.
Use a shortcut for quicker access
To configure an Accessibility Shortcut, go to Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut and select a feature from the list shown on your iPhone. You can then use the configured button shortcut. Apple’s Accessibility Shortcut on iPhone explains setup; whether Reduce Motion appears in the available list can depend on the device and software configuration, so check the options on your phone.
