You can wake a PS5 from a phone app only when the console is in Rest Mode and network wake is enabled. For a remote-control session, use PS Remote Play; to launch a downloaded game, use the PlayStation App’s Play on Console option.
How do I turn on my PS5 from the app?
First enable the console’s network-wake settings, then leave it in Rest Mode. Sony says Remote Play setup requires the relevant Rest Mode options to be on for the console to start over the network.

On the PS5, open Settings > System > Remote Play and turn on Enable Remote Play.

Open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode. Enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.

Put the PS5 in Rest Mode; do not fully power it off.

On your phone or tablet, open PS Remote Play, sign in with the same PlayStation account used on the console, select PS5, and connect.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Remote Play displays the console on your mobile device and lets you control it remotely. Sony recommends an internet connection of at least 5 Mbps upload and download; it recommends 15 Mbps upload and download for best performance. These are recommendations, not guarantees. Remote Play can use substantially more data than most video-streaming services, so check your mobile-data allowance if you are not on Wi-Fi. See Sony’s Remote Play connection guidance.
Can I turn on my PS5 with the PlayStation App?
Yes. Sony documents network wake from the PlayStation App while the PS5 is in Rest Mode. The app also has a separate action for starting a particular downloaded game: after pairing the console, open Game Library > Purchased, select the game, then tap Play on Console. The PS5 must be in Rest Mode with Stay Connected to the Internet enabled. See PlayStation App features.

Why won’t my PS5 wake up from Remote Play?

The console is fully powered off. The documented network-wake feature works while the PS5 is in Rest Mode. Turn it on locally and leave it in Rest Mode for the next remote connection.

Network wake is disabled. On the console, check Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode and enable both Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.

Remote Play is not enabled. For a Remote Play session, check Settings > System > Remote Play > Enable Remote Play.

The app cannot find the console. Confirm that the phone app and PS5 use the same PlayStation account. For Play on Console, make sure the console is paired in the PlayStation App.

The connection is unreliable. Check upload and download speed against Sony’s recommendations: 5 Mbps for a standard connection and 15 Mbps for best performance. Actual results can vary, and mobile data use may be high.
Do you need a controller to wake the PS5?
No controller is required just to wake the console. If you want to play through Remote Play, Sony lists DualSense, DualSense Edge, and DUALSHOCK 4 controllers as options on supported mobile devices. A controller is optional; it is not part of the network-wake setup. See Sony’s mobile Remote Play guidance.
