Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYou can turn old videos into a continuous YouTube Live broadcast by looping a local video or playlist in an encoder such as OBS, then sending the feed to YouTube with the stream URL and key from Live Control Room. The computer and internet connection must stay available for a local setup. A cloud service is another option if you want the broadcast to continue without a home computer running.
Before you start: check eligibility and rights
Make sure the channel can livestream
YouTube says livestreaming requires a verified channel with no livestream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Initial livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before you plan to go live. YouTube’s getting-started guidance states a minimum age of 16. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance and getting started with live streaming.

Confirm the content is cleared for a new live use
Having uploaded a video before does not automatically give you the rights to broadcast it again as a live stream. Check the music, clips, images, and other third-party material in every file. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, and licensed third-party content may still be interrupted unless the rights holder allowlists your channel. Review YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance and its Terms of Service.

Loop old videos with OBS
Prepare one video or a playlist
- Install and open OBS. For a single video, add a Media Source, select the local video file, and enable Loop. OBS describes this control as determining whether the file plays again after playback completes. See the OBS Media Sources guide (dated 2022-01-11).
- For multiple files, add a VLC Video source, select the files or playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source type. Confirm the order and transitions by previewing the playlist before streaming.
- Check that the source produces both picture and sound in the OBS preview. Make sure the audio is audible without clipping and that the video is framed as intended.
Create the YouTube stream and connect OBS
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and copy its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain where to find them.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube as the service, then connect the account or enter the stream URL and key as appropriate for the selected connection method. Treat the key like a password: it lets an encoder send video to your channel, so do not publish or share it.
- Start streaming from OBS and check the Live Control Room preview before making the broadcast public. Verify that the correct stream is receiving the signal, then go live in Live Control Room if YouTube has not started the broadcast automatically.
Set quality and test the broadcast
Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate based on the source video and the upload connection; avoid selecting settings the source or connection cannot sustain. YouTube’s live encoder settings provide its current recommendations for encoder configuration. Use the settings applicable to your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than assuming one bitrate suits every stream.

- Check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and stream health before relying on the loop.
- Test the encoder and network setup in advance. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom above the stream bitrate; for example, a stream configured at a given bitrate needs a connection capable of more than that bitrate, not merely an equal rate. See YouTube’s streaming tips.
- Keep an eye on the stream after launch. A looping source repeats media, but it cannot by itself fix a failed connection, stopped computer, or encoder problem.
Choose between a local computer and cloud streaming
Run OBS locally
A local encoder gives you control over OBS scenes and settings, but the computer, OBS, source files, power, and internet connection all need to remain available. A power interruption, computer sleep, application crash, or network outage can stop the stream. YouTube’s encoder directory also lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos; the directory does not establish its current pricing, service levels, or partner terms. See YouTube’s encoder directory.

Plan for recording and replay limits
A 24/7 broadcast is not a reliable way to create one complete YouTube replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If preserving the full program matters, make a local recording or divide the broadcast into shorter sessions, and keep a separate local archive backup. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Troubleshooting common problems
- Livestreaming is unavailable: verify the channel and check for livestream restrictions in the prior 90 days. If live access has just been enabled, activation may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube receives no signal: confirm OBS is streaming to the correct YouTube event and that the stream URL and key match. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in Live Control Room and update OBS.
- The video stops instead of repeating: check that Loop is enabled on the Media Source, or Loop Playlist is enabled on the VLC Video source. For a VLC source, confirm VLC is installed.
- The picture or audio is unstable: check OBS output settings and the Live Control Room preview, then test upload capacity. YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the configured stream bitrate.
- A stream ends unexpectedly: with a local setup, check whether the computer slept, OBS closed, power failed, or the connection dropped. A looping media source does not keep the encoder or network alive.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: YouTube warns that broadcasts longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording if the full program must be preserved.
- A stream is interrupted by a rights match: review the flagged material and confirm that you have the rights for live use; an earlier upload does not clear third-party material for a new broadcast.
