Update Marvel’s Wolverine to version 1.002.001 or later, then use the Hint button—R3 by default—to make story-related Scent Trails appear when you request them. For other sensory cues, use their separate Senses toggles so you only change the effect you want to hide.
Turn story-related Scent Trails on only when you need them
- Install update 1.002.001 or later. Insomniac added the story-related scent-trail option in its October 6, 2026 update. See Insomniac’s Update 1.002.001 notes.
- Use the Hint button to reveal a trail on demand. The button is R3 by default. Press it when you want help locating the story-related trail rather than leaving that trail continuously visible.
The official notes describe the Hint-button control but do not give a full Settings menu path for it. Avoid changing Navigation Assist or Senses Color Customization in search of this control: Insomniac lists those as separate accessibility options in its accessibility guide.

Hide other sensory cues individually
Update 1.001.006 or later adds separate on/off controls for these cues. Open the game’s Senses controls and switch off only the entry you want to hide; the patch notes do not specify a more detailed menu breadcrumb.

Insomniac added the three separate toggles in Update 1.001.006. Its notes state: “Story-critical Senses will still appear in the world.” The later Hint-button option changes how story-related scent trails are requested; the official notes do not promise a switch that removes every story-critical sensory cue.

Why the controls changed across updates
- Update 1.001.005, September 25, 2026: reduced the opacity of Scent Trails and Audio Sense indicators, and said Insomniac was exploring toggleable options. Read the update notes.
- Update 1.001.006, October 1, 2026: added separate toggles for Whisky Bottle Scent Trails, Material Crate Audio Clues, and Nightmare Door Roots.
- Update 1.002.001, October 6, 2026: added the Hint-button option for story-related scent trails.
The game’s official terminology is “Scent Trails” and “Senses”; “fart trails” is an informal player description. Marvel’s Wolverine is a PS5 game, as identified on Insomniac’s games page.
