How to Turn Off Siri’s Access to Apps, Health Data, Voice Activation, and Device Features

Siri has separate controls for app learning, Health data, voice activation, complete shutdown and optional interaction samples. This guide shows the exact paths and explains what each switch does.
Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no single switch that controls every way Siri can interact with an iPhone. To limit Siri, choose the narrowest control that matches your goal: disable learning for one app, remove Health-data access, stop the voice trigger, turn Siri off entirely, or opt out of optional interaction samples used to improve Apple’s products. These settings affect different behaviors and should not be treated as interchangeable privacy controls.

The names and locations of Siri controls vary by device and software release. On recent iPhones, Siri settings may be labelled Apple Intelligence & Siri; older releases generally show Siri. Use the closest matching label on your device.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

A useful way to think about the choices is by scope. App settings affect one app’s learning or suggestion surfaces; the Health control covers Health data; voice settings cover one activation method; Turn Off Siri is the broadest device-level choice; and Analytics & Improvements governs optional sharing for product improvement. Changing one does not automatically change the others.

Which Siri control do you need?

Start with the outcome you want rather than searching for a universal “Siri permissions” switch. The following controls have different scopes and effects.

Goal What changes Typical path
Stop Siri learning from one app Prevents learning from that app for Siri suggestions. It does not, by itself, disable every Siri function involving the app. Settings > Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri > App Access > app > Learn from this App
Hide an app’s Siri suggestions Controls where suggestions appear, such as the Home Screen or notifications. Hiding suggestions is separate from stopping learning. Settings > Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri > App Access > app
Block Siri from Health data Turns off Siri’s Health-data access control. A request that needs Health data can ask you to enable it again. Settings > Apps > Health > Siri, or Apple Intelligence & Siri
Stop “Siri” or “Hey Siri” voice activation Removes the voice trigger while leaving other Siri activation methods available, depending on the device. Settings > Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri > Requests
Disable Siri altogether Turns Siri off on the device after confirmation. Settings > Siri > Turn Off Siri
Stop optional sample sharing Opts out of Apple’s product-improvement program for Siri, Dictation and related interactions. This is separate from app and Health permissions. Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements

Compare each setting by three questions: What is its scope, what behavior does it change, and on which device and software version is it available? For example, turning off Suggestion Notifications changes presentation, not learning. Turning off voice activation changes the trigger, not Siri’s availability through typing or a button. Turning off improvement sharing changes optional sample handling, not the assistant’s ability to answer locally.

Turn off Siri learning for a specific iPhone app

If one app should not contribute to Siri suggestions, change that app’s learning setting. This is the most targeted option and leaves Siri available elsewhere.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Siri. On some releases, tap Apple Intelligence & Siri instead.
  3. Tap App Access.
  4. Select the app you want to change.
  5. Turn off Learn from this App.

With Learn from this App disabled, Siri no longer learns how you use that app for suggestions. This setting is not the same as hiding a suggestion. Siri’s suggestion-display controls can be changed independently, so review them if you want the app to disappear from particular places. [c001]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use this control when the concern is a particular app rather than Siri as a whole. It does not promise that every Siri interaction involving the app is disabled; it specifically controls learning from the app for suggestions. If you want a broader change, use the voice, Siri-off, or analytics setting that matches that broader objective.

Control where that app’s suggestions appear

Inside the selected app’s Siri settings, look for options such as:

  • Show on Home Screen
  • Suggest App
  • Suggestion Notifications

Turn off only the presentation options you do not want. Apple says the available choices depend on the selected app and Siri version. For example, disabling Show on Home Screen changes a location where a suggestion is displayed; it does not revoke the app’s Learn from this App permission. If your goal is to stop learning, verify that the learning switch itself is off.

You can therefore combine the controls. Someone who wants no learning and no visible prompts can turn off Learn from this App and then disable each suggestion surface shown for that app. Someone who only dislikes a Home Screen prompt can leave learning on and disable Show on Home Screen. The correct choice depends on whether the concern is data use for suggestions, the way suggestions are displayed, or both.

App Clips have separate controls

Apple also documents separate Siri controls for App Clips. If an App Clip continues to appear in suggestions after you change a full app’s settings, check the App Clips section in Siri settings and adjust it separately. A full app’s switch should not be treated as a blanket setting for every related App Clip.

Turn off Siri access to Health data

Health information uses its own Siri control. Changing an individual app’s learning setting does not change this Health permission.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps, then Health.
  3. Tap Siri. On some versions, the control is surfaced under Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  4. Turn off Learn from this App.

After this switch is off, a Siri request that requires Health data may prompt you to turn access back on. That prompt does not mean the setting failed; it indicates that the requested information is unavailable while the permission is disabled. [c002]

Supported devices and language requirements

Apple’s Health-data Siri capability requires supported hardware and software. Apple lists iPhone with iOS 17.2 or later, supported iPads with iPadOS 17.2 or later, or Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 with watchOS 10.2 or later. The Siri language must be English (United States) or Mandarin Chinese (China mainland). If your device, operating system or Siri language is outside those requirements, the Health-specific option or behavior may not appear.

These requirements explain why two Apple devices can show different Health-related menus. Check the device model, operating-system release and Siri language before concluding that a control is missing or malfunctioning. The Health permission is still distinct from per-app suggestion controls even when both screens use the words Learn from this App.

What happens to Health information

Apple says a recognized Siri request to read or write Health data does not make that Health data stored or accessible to Apple. Recognition matters: if Siri does not identify the request as a Health-data request, Apple says it follows its default behavior, and any health information included in the request is sent to Apple servers. Avoid including sensitive Health details in a request when you are unsure how Siri will classify it. [c002]

Turning off the Health switch is therefore the direct way to prevent Siri from using the Health capability, while being mindful that classification of a spoken or typed request also matters. If Siri asks to turn Health access back on, decline if you want the permission to remain disabled.

Stop “Siri” or “Hey Siri” from activating by voice

Voice activation is narrower than turning Siri off. It prevents the spoken trigger but may leave Siri available through a button, typing, a connected device or another activation method supported by your hardware and settings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  3. Open the section labelled Requests. Depending on the release, it may instead be called Talk and Type to Siri, Talk to Siri or Listen for Siri.
  4. Turn off the option that listens for the Siri voice phrase.

Apple’s device documentation notes that activation and interaction choices depend on the device, software and current settings. If you do not see the exact wording above, search within the Siri settings page for “listen,” “talk” or “requests.” Disabling the voice trigger does not automatically disable typed or button-based Siri requests. This is the appropriate compromise when you want to prevent an accidental response to a nearby conversation but still want an on-demand assistant. Test the result without pressing a button, then test any manual method you intend to keep. A failed voice trigger alone does not prove that Siri has been turned off.

Turn Siri off completely on an iPhone

Choose this option when you do not want Siri available through any normal activation method on the iPhone.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Siri. Some releases show Apple Intelligence & Siri.
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  4. Tap Turn Off Siri.
  5. Confirm when prompted.

Apple’s current iPhone guide documents these steps for iOS 27. Earlier or later releases can use a different label or confirmation screen, so do not assume that an iOS 27 path is universal. Turning Siri off is broader than disabling voice activation and is the appropriate choice when you want Siri unavailable rather than merely silent until summoned another way. [c005]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Turning Siri off does not automatically change settings on your other Apple hardware. If you want the same result on an iPad, Mac, Watch, HomePod, Apple TV or Vision Pro, review that device separately. Likewise, turning Siri off does not by itself opt you out of optional improvement samples; the Analytics & Improvements switch must be handled separately.

If Siri still appears after you turn it off

  • Return to Settings > Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri and check that the main Siri-off confirmation completed.
  • Check whether you changed only the voice-listening option. That setting suppresses the spoken trigger but does not turn Siri off.
  • On a device managed by an organization, a configuration profile may control available features. Contact the administrator if the setting is locked or immediately reverts.
  • Check other Apple devices separately. Turning Siri off on an iPhone does not automatically change Siri on an iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, Apple TV or Apple Vision Pro.

Opt out of Siri interaction samples used for improvement

Apple provides a separate analytics control for people who do not want to participate in optional sharing intended to improve Siri and related features. This choice is not an app permission and does not revoke Siri’s ability to respond on the device.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Analytics & Improvements.
  4. Turn off Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence or Improve Siri & Dictation, depending on the wording shown.

The setting is available on iPhone and iPad, with corresponding controls on Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro. On HomePod, the Home Organizer changes the option in the Home app, so an individual household member may not be able to alter it. [c003]

What opting in permits

Apple says enabling the improvement setting permits it to store and review samples of Siri, Dictation and Translate interactions. Those samples can include audio, transcripts and related request data. Apple associates the material with a random device-generated identifier rather than your Apple Account or email address.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Apple says only its employees review audio recordings, while a subset of non-audio samples may be reviewed by human graders. Apple also says that enabling Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence allows the data to train foundation models. Apple states that request history is not used to build a marketing profile and is never sold. These details describe the optional improvement program; they are not a description of the per-app or Health permissions. [c003]

Apple’s support page for these settings was published September 16, 2026, and labels can differ by platform. If your device shows Improve Siri & Dictation rather than Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence, use the switch that is actually present. The two labels represent the corresponding opt-out control for that software version.

Change Siri settings on other Apple devices

Siri controls are device-specific. If your objective is to stop voice activation, app learning or Siri entirely across your hardware, repeat the relevant review on each device rather than assuming the iPhone setting syncs everywhere.

  • iPad: Look under Settings > Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri. The availability of app and Health controls depends on the iPad model and iPadOS version.
  • Mac: Siri settings and the analytics opt-out are managed in macOS settings. The exact panel name changes between macOS releases.
  • Apple Watch: Review Siri in the Watch settings and the watch’s own activation choices. Health-data Siri support is limited to the Apple Watch models and watchOS versions Apple lists.
  • HomePod: Siri responds through the HomePod’s own settings. The Home Organizer controls the improvement-sharing choice in the Home app.
  • Apple TV and Apple Vision Pro: Review Siri and privacy settings on each device; the controls and available interaction methods differ from iPhone.

These platform differences matter when a voice request still works after an iPhone change: the request may be reaching a nearby HomePod or another device whose Siri setting remains enabled. Check each device that can hear or answer the request, and review analytics settings on each platform where you want to opt out.

How to verify the result

After changing a setting, test only the behavior you intended to change. This avoids mistaking a hidden suggestion for revoked access or a disabled voice trigger for a completely disabled assistant.

  1. For an app-learning change, open the app’s Siri page again and confirm Learn from this App is off. Check the suggestion-location switches separately.
  2. For Health data, ask a harmless test question that normally requires Health information. A request for which Siri needs Health access should indicate that access is unavailable or ask you to enable it.
  3. For voice activation, wait until the device is idle and speak the trigger phrase without pressing a button. Then test a button or typing method if you need to know whether Siri itself remains enabled.
  4. For a complete shutdown, check that the Siri settings page shows the off state and that neither voice nor manual activation starts Siri.
  5. For improvement sharing, revisit Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and confirm the relevant switch is off on every device where you made the choice.

Repeat the check after a software update if a menu moves or a label changes. Apple’s labels are version-sensitive, so use the function of the control rather than relying on an exact phrase from an older guide. A control that is unavailable on one device may reflect hardware, language or software requirements rather than an error.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Turning off a suggestion location and assuming access is revoked: Display controls and Learn from this App are separate.
  • Disabling “Hey Siri” and expecting Siri to disappear: Voice activation is only one activation path.
  • Changing the Health setting and expecting all Siri data sharing to stop: Health access and product-improvement analytics are separate controls.
  • Assuming one device’s setting covers the household: Siri and analytics choices can be configured independently on Apple devices.
  • Following an older menu name literally: Apple changes labels across releases, including the move between Siri and Apple Intelligence & Siri. Use the equivalent control visible on your software version.
  • Assuming a missing Health option means it is hidden elsewhere: Check the supported iOS, iPadOS, watchOS and Siri-language requirements first.
  • Testing only one behavior: A voice test cannot confirm app learning, and an app suggestion test cannot confirm that optional sample sharing is disabled.

A practical order for tightening Siri privacy

If you want a systematic review, work from the narrowest concern to the broadest:

  1. List the app, data category or device feature that concerns you.
  2. Open that app’s App Access page and disable Learn from this App if the concern is app-based suggestions.
  3. Open the Health Siri control separately if Health information is involved.
  4. Disable the voice-listening option if you only want to prevent spoken activation.
  5. Use Turn Off Siri if no Siri activation method should remain on that device.
  6. Review Analytics & Improvements on every relevant Apple device if you do not want optional interaction samples shared for improvement.

This sequence prevents overcorrecting. You can stop learning from one app without losing Siri everywhere, or stop voice activation while retaining typed requests. Conversely, if your goal is a complete shutdown, changing only one narrow switch will not achieve it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the narrowest setting that matches your privacy goal

Use per-app learning controls when one app is the concern, the dedicated Health switch for Health information, the Requests setting when you only want to stop spoken activation, and Turn Off Siri when you want the assistant unavailable. Use the Analytics & Improvements switch separately if your concern is optional collection and review of interaction samples. Keeping these scopes distinct lets you reduce Siri’s access without changing unrelated device features.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does turning off Siri suggestions revoke Siri’s access to an app?

No. Suggestion locations such as Show on Home Screen, Suggest App and Suggestion Notifications are separate from Learn from this App. Turn off Learn from this App when you want Siri to stop learning from that app for suggestions.

How do I stop Siri from using Health data?

Open Settings, tap Apps, Health and Siri, then turn off Learn from this App. Some versions surface the control under Apple Intelligence & Siri. A request that needs Health data may ask you to enable access again.

Is disabling Hey Siri the same as turning Siri off?

No. Disabling the voice-listening option removes the spoken trigger but may leave Siri available through typing, a button or another supported method. Use Turn Off Siri for the broader shutdown.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How do I stop Apple from receiving optional Siri samples?

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and turn off Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence or Improve Siri & Dictation, whichever your software shows. This is separate from Siri’s app and Health permissions.

Why can Siri still respond on another Apple device?

Siri settings are device-specific. Review the iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, HomePod, Apple TV or Apple Vision Pro separately. HomePod’s improvement-sharing setting is changed by the Home Organizer in the Home app.

Why is the Health Siri option missing?

Apple lists support for iPhone with iOS 17.2 or later, supported iPads with iPadOS 17.2 or later, and Apple Watch Series 9 or Apple Watch Ultra 2 with watchOS 10.2 or later. The Siri language must be English (United States) or Mandarin Chinese (China mainland).

The Bottom Line

Siri privacy controls are deliberately separated by purpose. Disable Learn from this App for one app, use the dedicated Health setting for Health data, change the Requests option to stop voice activation, choose Turn Off Siri for a complete device-level shutdown, and turn off Analytics & Improvements to decline optional interaction samples. Check each Apple device and follow the labels shown by its software version.
