To turn off Safe Mode on a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, restart the device from its power menu. If your device shows a Safe mode notification with a Turn off option, you can use that shortcut instead. If Safe Mode keeps returning, check whether the Volume Down button is stuck.
Restart your Galaxy device
- Open the power menu. Depending on your model, press and hold the Side button, or press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons together. You can also open the Quick settings panel and tap the power icon if it appears.
- Tap Restart, then confirm if prompted. If Restart is unavailable, choose Power off. Wait for the screen to go dark, then turn the device on again with its power button.
Button combinations and menu labels vary by Galaxy model and software version. Use the power-menu option available on your device. Samsung documents the restart and power-off methods in its Safe Mode and boot-loop guidance and its instructions for powering a Galaxy device on or off.

Use the Safe mode notification if it appears
- Swipe down from the top of the screen to open notifications.
- Tap the Safe mode notification, then choose Turn off if that option is shown.
The shortcut is available only on supported devices and software versions; notification wording and controls can differ. Selecting it restarts the device. See Samsung’s instructions for using Safe Mode on a Galaxy.
What Safe Mode does
Safe Mode starts the phone or tablet with core software while disabling downloaded apps. It helps determine whether an issue may be caused by an app you installed. Samsung describes this diagnostic use in its Galaxy Safe Mode guide.

If Safe Mode keeps coming back
Check the Volume Down button
A device can start in Safe Mode if Volume Down is held during startup. Check that the button is not being pressed by a case and that it moves freely. If it seems stuck or the device repeatedly starts in Safe Mode after restarting, a button fault may need assessment. Samsung recommends having the device checked if the issue persists; consult Samsung’s Safe Mode exit guidance.
Use Safe Mode to investigate an app problem
If the issue you were troubleshooting disappears in Safe Mode, a recently downloaded app may be responsible. Restart into normal mode, remove recent downloads one at a time, and check whether the problem returns after each removal. Samsung’s troubleshooting steps describe this approach in its Galaxy app troubleshooting guidance.
