To stop Google Assistant personal results from appearing on your Android Auto car display, open the display’s home screen and go to Settings > Google > Google Assistant, then turn off Allow personal results. Google says these results can include destination and media recommendations. This setting does not necessarily remove every suggestion in Android Auto: media apps, Google Maps and Assistant notifications have separate recommendation surfaces.
Turn off personal results on the car display
- On the car display, return to the Android Auto home screen.
- Open the apps list and tap Settings.
- Choose Google > Google Assistant.
- Turn off Allow personal results.
Google Assistant Help says that when Personal results are on, “destination and media recommendations appear on the car display,” and instructs users to turn off “Allow personal results.” See Google’s instructions for personal results on Assistant-enabled devices. Menu names or availability can vary by vehicle and software configuration, so treat this as Google’s documented path rather than a guaranteed identical path on every car.

If suggestions still appear, identify where they come from
Android Auto suggestions are not all controlled by the same setting. Check the surface where the suggestion appears before changing broader account settings.
| Where it appears | What may be generating it | Relevant control or limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Android Auto car display | Google Assistant Personal results, including destination and media recommendations | Turn off Allow personal results in the car display’s Google Assistant settings. Google Assistant Help |
| Assistant interaction or Android phone notification | Assistant action suggestions or personalized feature suggestions | Google lists controls including Web & App Activity, Personal Results notifications on the device, and Location History. These are broader account or device controls, not the same as the car-display switch. Google’s explanation of Assistant action suggestions |
| Media dashboard | A media app’s recommendations | Android Auto guidance says apps can provide dashboard recommendations; it does not document one Android Auto-wide setting that removes all of them. Android Developers: Provide recommendations |
| Google Maps destination picker | The Recent option, which can show recently visited places and suggestions based on recent Maps searches | Google documents these as navigation choices separately from Assistant Personal results; its navigation help does not give a setting to hide only Recent suggestions. Android Auto navigation help |
What broader Assistant controls change
Assistant action suggestions and personalized feature suggestions may draw on past Assistant interactions and settings, Location History, Android app use and activity in other Google products, according to Google Assistant Help. Google lists Web & App Activity, device Personal Results notifications and Location History among the relevant controls. These settings can affect other Google experiences, so they are not a narrowly targeted substitute for turning off personal results on the car display.

Why the phone’s Android Auto settings are different
Google also documents Android Auto settings on a phone under Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Android Auto, or by searching the phone’s Settings for “Android Auto.” The cited Google for Developers app launcher guidance covers launcher tasks such as hiding or rearranging apps; it does not establish that the car’s Allow personal results control is located there.

Turning off Allow personal results is Google’s documented control for personal results on the car display. The available Google guidance describes media-app recommendations and Maps Recent suggestions separately, and does not promise that this setting removes every suggestion across Assistant, media apps, Maps, all vehicles and software versions.
