Change the setting on the account, platform, or game where the recommendations or ads appear—and check each one you use. These controls can limit personalization or data sharing, but they do not necessarily stop analytics, service-required data processing, or ads and recommendations from appearing.
What these settings do—and what they do not do
“Personalized game features” can mean store recommendations, in-game discovery, promotional offers, or targeted ads. The control for one may not affect the others, and platform settings are separate: a change to a Windows or Nintendo account setting does not automatically change a Fortnite setting or another service’s choices.

Before switching anything off, read its stated purpose. A control for personalized recommendations or offers may be separate from one for product-improvement analytics, gameplay telemetry, or data needed to operate a service. Opting out of recommendations does not by itself establish that those other forms of processing stop.
You may continue seeing ads, offers, or recommendations after opting out. In some cases, the setting changes how relevant they are or whether particular information is shared; it does not remove the placements. Menu labels and eligibility can change, so confirm the current options in the account or device you use.

Turn off personalized features by platform
Nintendo Account
- Sign in to the Nintendo Account you want to change.
- Open Privacy and Other Settings, then Data Usage – Opt-Out Preferences.
- Review the separate choices for sharing usage information to improve Nintendo products and services and for sharing usage information to receive personalized offers and recommendations. Turn off the choice that matches your preference.
Nintendo Support describes the control as letting account holders “Choose whether or not to allow Nintendo to use or share your information to provide you with personalized advertisements, recommendations, or other tailored content.” Nintendo says usage information may include content played or purchased and services or features used, and may be processed or shared for targeted advertising and customized recommendations. Nintendo’s instructions for managing Nintendo Account data usage settings explain the options.
Nintendo website recommendations can be based on factors such as play history, require a signed-in account, and depend on allowing Nintendo to customize offers and recommendations. For a supervised account, the family group manager must select the child account and open its data usage preferences. Nintendo Support’s account instructions cover the supervised-account route.

PlayStation
PlayStation’s account choices include using personal information to recommend products and services tailored to your interests, show personalized ads in Sony services and on third-party apps and sites, and send video or music recommendations from partner services. Look for the personalization choices themselves; general privacy settings for profile visibility or communication are not the same controls. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s PlayStation privacy guidance describes the choices and their scope.
For general account privacy settings, PlayStation documents the online route as Account Management > Privacy settings and the PS5 route as Settings > Users and Accounts > Privacy. Account privacy changes are reflected across devices. Sony cautions: “If this is turned off, you may still see offers and recommendations, but they may be less relevant to your interests.”

Fortnite and Epic Games
For eligible Fortnite players, Epic documents this path: Settings > Account and Privacy > Gameplay Privacy. Find the personalized recommendations control and change it there. Fortnite Discover recommendations may draw on your play history, friends’ and recently played users’ history, and island factors; Epic may also recommend Item Shop items based on user interactions. This Fortnite setting should not be treated as an opt-out from all Epic recommendations, advertising, or data collection for other purposes. Epic’s explanation of recommendations and ranking in Fortnite and Fall Guys describes the feature.
Epic says: “If you are eligible to receive personalized recommendations, you can control your personalized recommendations in the Fortnite settings menu, under ‘account and privacy’ and ‘gameplay privacy.’” The cited Epic guidance describes Fall Guys recommendations as using game information such as play frequency, completion and dropout rates, respawns, and likes or dislikes at individual and group levels, but does not establish an equivalent player-facing opt-out path for Fall Guys.

Windows 11 and Microsoft account
Windows 11 offers two distinct controls. To manage tips, ads, and recommendations based on Windows activity, open Settings > Privacy & security > Personalized offers. To manage use of the Advertising ID by apps that rely on it, open Settings > Privacy & security > Recommendations & offers and review the Advertising ID switch. Microsoft’s Windows privacy guidance explains these controls.

Windows personalization may use information about how you use Microsoft products and services, including Xbox. A separate Microsoft account control covers sharing data with third parties for personalized ads on third-party sites; it is not a substitute for Windows, console, or in-game settings. Microsoft account ad settings address that separate scope.

Xbox
Check current Xbox recommendations and privacy instructions for the Microsoft account you use, and review the available choices in that account. The official Xbox support result available for personalized recommendations does not provide verifiable menu labels or steps here, so no specific Xbox path can be stated reliably. Do not assume a Windows, Microsoft account advertising, or individual game setting covers every Xbox feature.

- Identify where the personalization appears: a game, console store, account website, Windows, or third-party app or site.
- Look for separate controls for recommendations, offers, targeted ads, and data use or sharing. Choose the one whose stated purpose matches your concern.
- Check individual games as well as platform accounts; a game-specific control may have a narrower scope than a platform setting.
- If the account is supervised or belongs to a child, check whether a family manager or guardian needs to make the change.
- After changing a setting, check what remains visible. Continued ads or recommendations do not necessarily mean the preference failed; the change may affect relevance or a particular use of data instead of removing content.
These platform controls are not a ranking of privacy quality: they differ in what they personalize, which data use they govern, where the control lives, and whether eligibility or family supervision affects access.
