Connect Switch 2 to your TV
Nintendo’s TV setup uses the Switch 2 dock as the video connection between the console and the TV. You need the Switch 2 AC adapter (model NGN-01) and an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.

- Open the cover on the back of the Switch 2 dock.
- Connect the Switch 2 AC adapter to the dock’s AC adapter port, then plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
- Connect the Ultra High Speed HDMI cable to the dock’s HDMI port and to an HDMI port on the TV or monitor.
- Close the dock’s back cover and place the dock where it can sit securely.
- If you plan to use the Joy-Con 2 controllers wirelessly, remove them from the console.
- Place the console in the dock with its screen facing the same direction as the dock’s front panel.
- Turn on the TV and select the HDMI input used by the dock.
The console screen turns off while it is docked. If the TV remains blank, use the troubleshooting steps below before replacing accessories.

Fix a blank screen or “No signal” message
Start with the TV input and the direct connections. A connected dock will not show a picture if the TV is on another HDMI input, or if an intermediate device is disrupting the signal.

Check the input and simplify the connection
- Confirm the TV is set to the HDMI input where the dock is connected.
- Connect the dock’s adapter directly to a wall outlet and connect HDMI directly from the dock to the TV.
- Temporarily remove HDMI splitters, sound bars, home theater receivers, and video adapters from the connection.
- Check that the console is seated correctly, with its screen facing the dock’s front panel. Remove a protective case if it prevents the console from sitting properly.
Test the cable, port, TV, and dock
- Try a different HDMI port on the TV.
- Try another Ultra High Speed HDMI cable.
- If available, try the console and dock with another TV, or test with another working Switch 2 dock. A working alternate dock can help identify whether the original dock is the problem.
- On Nintendo of America’s US troubleshooting guidance, also review the TV and HDMI settings and try turning Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) off.
If these checks do not restore the picture, Nintendo’s troubleshooting guidance directs users to arrange service for the dock and/or console.
Fix “Could not connect to the TV” or an adapter warning
Nintendo of America says this message can appear when the dock is powered by an adapter other than the Switch 2 model NGN-01. Confirm that you have a Switch 2 dock (model BEE-005) and the correct adapter before investigating other causes.

- Turn off the TV and disconnect the dock’s cables.
- Unplug the AC adapter from both the wall outlet and the dock. Leave it disconnected for at least 30 seconds.
- Inspect the adapter, HDMI cable, and connections for visible damage.
- Check for a console system update, then open System Settings > System > Dock Update to check for a dock firmware update.
- Reconnect the NGN-01 adapter directly to a wall outlet and connect HDMI directly from the dock to the TV.
- Dock the console with its screen facing the dock’s front panel and check whether the message clears.
Nintendo of America’s US no-video guidance says an alternative adapter and cable for the dock can provide at least 54W. This is US guidance, not a universal rule: Nintendo’s regional support guidance advises using an adapter compatible with the console’s power requirements and approved for the country where it is used. If the correct setup still produces the warning, test another Switch 2 adapter if one is available; a persistent problem may require service.
Which original Switch accessories work with Switch 2?
The generations’ accessories are not interchangeable for TV mode. Nintendo says, “The Nintendo Switch dock is not compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.” The original Switch AC adapter can charge a Switch 2 when plugged directly into the console, but it cannot power the Switch 2 dock for TV mode. Nintendo also specifies an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable for Switch 2 TV mode, so the original Switch HDMI cable is not the appropriate cable for this setup.

When to replace an accessory or request service
Do not buy a replacement dock or adapter until the connection checks identify a likely missing or faulty item. First confirm the correct Switch 2 dock and adapter are in use, simplify the HDMI path, reseat the console, and try another port or cable. A replacement Ultra High Speed HDMI cable is relevant if the supplied cable is missing or testing points to a cable fault. Consider a Switch 2 dock or NGN-01 adapter only if the corresponding hardware is missing or testing indicates it has failed. If the documented checks do not restore TV output or dock power, arrange service for the dock and/or console through Nintendo Support.
