To turn off personalized advertising tied to your Microsoft account, sign in to your account, open the Microsoft Privacy dashboard, select Review ad settings under More privacy settings, and switch off See ads that interest you. What happens to ads on Xbox after opting out?
Turning off the account setting stops Microsoft from using account data to personalize its ads, but it does not promise to remove ads from Xbox or other services. Opting out affects personalization, not necessarily whether ads appear. Microsoft also says that turning off the Windows advertising ID will not reduce the number of ads; ads may instead be less relevant.

Microsoft explains the Windows setting in its General privacy settings in Windows guidance. If your concern is third-party data sharing, check its separate toggle in account ad settings as well as switching off personalized ads.
How long the opt-out lasts
When you make the choice while signed in, Microsoft saves it in account settings until you change it or delete the account. When you opt out while signed out, Microsoft stores the choice in a browser cookie for six months or until you clear cookies, whichever comes first. Microsoft’s privacy choices guidance describes these persistence rules.
