To stop future beta offers on an iPhone running iOS 16.4 or later, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and select Off. On iOS 16.3.1 or earlier, remove the iOS Beta Software Profile instead. Turning beta updates off does not remove a beta that is already installed.
Turn off beta updates on iOS 16.4 or later
- Open Settings.
- Tap General, then Software Update.
- Tap Beta Updates.
- Select Off.
These are Apple’s steps for iOS 16.4 and later. Apple’s instructions for uninstalling iOS or iPadOS beta software explain both the current setting and the older profile method.

Turn off beta updates on iOS 16.3.1 or earlier
- Open Settings > General > VPN & Device Management.
- Tap the iOS Beta Software Profile, if it appears.
- Tap Remove Profile, enter your passcode if asked, and confirm.
After the profile is removed, the iPhone no longer receives public beta releases, according to Apple.

Turning off Beta Updates or removing a profile stops future beta offers; it does not downgrade or uninstall the iOS version currently on the iPhone. If you want to return to the currently released public iOS before a public update is available, Apple says you must erase the device and restore it. The same restore requirement applies if a computer was used to install the beta.

Check backup compatibility before restoring
A backup made while the iPhone was running beta software may not work with an earlier iOS version. Apple notes that an archived backup made on an earlier compatible version may be usable after the restore. Check which backup you can use before erasing the phone; do not assume a beta-era backup will restore to the earlier public release.

If the iPhone says an update is available because the beta has expired, Apple advises installing the offered update from Settings > General > Software Update.
