If you want to turn off Apple Intelligence more broadly, use the separate control in Settings instead.
Block Writing Tools without turning off other Apple Intelligence features
- Open Settings and tap Screen Time.
- Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions. If restrictions are off, turn them on.
- Tap Intelligence & Siri, then tap Writing Tools.
- Select Don’t Allow.
This Screen Time setting restricts access to Writing Tools. Apple lists separate controls in the same area for image creation and Intelligence Extensions, so changing the Writing Tools setting does not itself disable those features. Apple’s Screen Time guide documents the restriction.

Turn off Apple Intelligence more broadly
If you would rather switch off Apple Intelligence instead of restricting Writing Tools alone, open Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and tap the control next to Apple Intelligence. This is a broader setting, not the Writing Tools-only restriction. See Apple’s guide to using Apple Intelligence on iPhone.
What happens when Writing Tools are available
Writing Tools can proofread or rewrite text, suggest different wording or tone, and summarize content. Apple says they are available in most places you write, including third-party apps and websites. Apple’s Writing Tools guide describes these functions.

If the settings are missing
Apple Intelligence is not available on every iPhone model, in every language, or in every region. Apple recommends using the latest iOS version for the latest available features. If you cannot find one of the named controls, check your iOS version, device support, language, and region; those factors can affect availability. Menu wording can also vary by iOS release or localization, so follow the closest current labels shown on your iPhone.
Apple’s support pages document the Screen Time path for iOS and the broader Apple Intelligence control separately. The Writing Tools guide is for a different iOS guide release, so labels may not match on every device.
