You can turn off individual Apple Intelligence features in Settings, and you can delete the Image Playground app if it is installed. Those are separate actions: deleting the app is not a documented way to remove Apple Intelligence itself or all of its on-device models.
Turn off Apple Intelligence features in Settings
Apple provides separate controls for Siri AI, summaries and other features rather than one universal switch that deletes Apple Intelligence. On an eligible iPhone, open Settings and select the feature you want to change. Apple’s iPhone User Guide documents controls for Siri AI, Messages and email summaries, notification summaries, priority notifications, Mail Smart Replies and voicemail suggestions.

For example, to stop notification summaries, use the notification-summary control in Settings; to change Siri AI, use its separate control. The exact menu labels and paths can vary by iOS version and feature availability, so follow the relevant Apple Intelligence or app-specific setting shown on your device. Apple says, “You can turn off Apple Intelligence features like Siri AI (Beta), summarization features, and more.”
Delete Image Playground separately
If Image Playground is installed and you no longer want the app, delete it using the iPhone’s normal app-removal controls: touch and hold its icon, choose Remove App, then choose Delete App and confirm. This removes the app from the device; it does not establish that Apple Intelligence has been disabled or that its underlying models have been removed.

What turning off a feature or deleting the app does—and does not—mean

Apple’s current guide describes feature controls, not a procedure for deleting every on-device Apple Intelligence model. It also does not give a verified storage-recovery figure for turning features off or deleting Image Playground. Avoid treating an app deletion or a settings change as proof of either outcome.

Apple Intelligence features require a supported device, and availability can depend on language and region. Apple’s guide identifies iOS 27 and lists Siri AI as beta, with language and regional limits. If a control is missing, check your iOS version, device eligibility, language and region; the feature may not be available for your configuration. Apple’s feature guide is the best reference for current eligibility and controls.

Older instructions may describe an iOS 18-era master toggle or a particular Image Playground removal path. Do not assume those directions match the current menus: Apple’s current documentation describes separate controls, and app removal remains distinct from removing the operating system’s models. A historical MacRumors guide published December 13, 2024 reflects that earlier context.
