How to Turn Off Airpod Notifications [5 Tested Methods]

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

AirPods can generate a surprising number of prompts—battery popups, connection prompts, Find My alerts, and even call/message announcements read through your earbuds. The good news: most of these are controlled by specific iOS/macOS settings, not by AirPods themselves.

This guide walks you through five tested methods to turn off AirPod notifications, with exact settings paths and what to do when the notification keeps coming back.

What AirPod Notifications Usually Mean (and Which Ones You Can Turn Off)

“AirPod notifications” can refer to several different systems messages. Knowing which one you’re seeing makes the fix much faster.

Notification you see Most likely source What you can disable
Battery popup (e.g., AirPods at 90%) AirPods battery notification Battery notifications for AirPods
“Connected”/device prompt banners Bluetooth/device notification behavior Bluetooth-related notifications and prompt style
Find My alerts (left behind / separated) Find My device notification Notify When Left Behind
Calls/SMS read aloud through AirPods Announce Notifications in Headphones Announce Notifications, including headphones mode

Before You Start: Check Your iOS/macOS Version and Where Notifications Come From

Menu names vary slightly between iOS 16/17 and macOS Ventura/Sonoma. If you don’t see a toggle, use the search bar in Settings/System Settings and look for the closest matching term (Battery, Announce Notifications, Find My, Bluetooth, Notifications).

Also, confirm you’re talking about notifications (banners/alerts/readouts) vs. AirPods features that change behavior (like Automatic Ear Detection). You can turn off both, but they solve different problems.

5 Tested Methods to Turn Off AirPod Notifications

1) Turn Off AirPods Battery Notifications (iPhone/iPad)

If you keep getting battery popups whenever you open the case or reconnect, this is usually the culprit.

2) Disable Find My Alerts for AirPods (Notify When Left Behind)

If you receive reminders like “AirPods left behind” or separation alerts, they’re coming from Find My.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap your Apple ID name (top of screen).
  3. Go to Find My.
  4. Tap Notify When Left Behind.
  5. Turn it Off for your AirPods (or disable per-device if your screen shows device-level controls).

If the option is missing or you want finer control, open the Find My app and check your device’s notification settings there.

3) Stop Announce Notifications in Headphones (Calls/SMS/Alerts)

If AirPods are reading incoming messages or alerts aloud while you’re wearing them, you’re likely using Announce Notifications (Siri/notification speaking feature).

4) Turn Off AirPod Connection/Device Prompt Notifications (iPhone/iPad)

Connection-style banners (and other Bluetooth prompt behaviors) are controlled by notification categories and device/banners settings.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Scroll and find the Bluetooth category (if present) or use the search field within Settings for Bluetooth.
  4. Turn off Allow Notifications for Bluetooth if you see it.
  5. If Bluetooth isn’t listed, check Settings > Focus. Make sure a Focus mode isn’t configured to allow banners that you normally suppress.

On some iOS builds, the AirPods “connected” banners are not exposed as a dedicated toggle. In that case, reducing banner behavior via Focus or notification category settings is the most practical workaround.

5) Turn Off Bluetooth Notifications on macOS for AirPods

macOS can show Bluetooth-related notifications (including device connection context). If AirPods notifications happen on your Mac, this method usually fixes it.

  1. Open System Settings on your Mac.
  2. Go to Notifications.
  3. Find Bluetooth in the app list.
  4. Turn Allow Notifications to Off for Bluetooth.
  5. If you use Focus, confirm you’re not allowing notifications from Bluetooth while a Focus is active.

If the Bluetooth category doesn’t appear, use the search within System Settings for Bluetooth or Notifications to locate the correct toggle.

Troubleshooting: Notifications Still Appearing After You Turn Them Off

If you flipped the right toggle and notifications keep showing up, it’s usually one of these issues: wrong feature (Announce Notifications vs. battery vs. Find My), a second device still announcing, or cached Bluetooth pairing behavior.

1) Confirm the notification type

Recreate the scenario and identify what you see: a battery banner, a Find My alert, or a spoken/readout message. Then match it to the method above.

2) Check both iPhone and iPad (or iPhone and Mac)

AirPods can connect to multiple devices. If you only turned settings off on iPhone, your iPad or Mac may still be allowed to notify.

3) Reconnect AirPods once after changes

After changing toggles, do a clean reconnect test:

  1. On iPhone/iPad: go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the info (i) next to AirPods.
  3. Turn Disconnect (or toggle Bluetooth off and back on).
  4. Put AirPods in the case and reopen to reconnect.

4) Restart the device if the toggle appears to have no effect

A short restart clears notification caching oddities that sometimes persist after iOS updates or AirPods firmware changes.

  • Easy setup for all your Apple devices

5) Update iOS/macOS (and let AirPods finish firmware updates)

AirPods firmware updates apply during charging and proximity. If you changed settings after a major iOS update, updating first can help ensure you’re editing the correct setting.

Common Mistakes (and How to Avoid Them)

  • Disabling battery notifications but still hearing messages: Battery popups are separate from Announce Notifications. Use Method 3 to stop spoken alerts.
  • Turning off notifications for one AirPods device but not the other: If you have multiple devices and AirPods are shared, apply the setting on each device.
  • Assuming AirPods control everything: Many “AirPod notifications” are iPhone/macOS notification features, not a per-earbud setting.
  • Missing a per-device Find My toggle: Some screens let you disable “Notify When Left Behind” at the device level. Make sure it’s actually off for your AirPods.

Alternatives if You Want Fewer Popups Without Losing All Alerts

If you still want key warnings (like Find My) but hate the noise, you can reduce impact without going fully silent.

Use Focus to suppress banners

Create a Focus mode and allow only important contacts. This reduces banner interruptions while keeping critical alerts possible.

Turn off banners, keep badges

In Settings > Notifications, some categories let you disable Allow Notifications (full off) or keep less intrusive presentation depending on iOS version.

FAQs

Why do I still see AirPods connection notifications after turning things off?

Either the notification type isn’t the one you disabled (battery vs. Announce Notifications vs. Find My), or the setting is still enabled on another connected device (iPad or Mac). Check Settings on each device and confirm the notification content.

Will turning off Announce Notifications stop readouts only for AirPods?

Announce Notifications is a system feature tied to notification speaking behavior. Depending on your iOS version, it may affect how alerts are announced across compatible output devices, not just AirPods.

Do AirPod notifications come from the AirPods themselves?

Battery and Find My behaviors are managed by iPhone/macOS features. AirPods are the audio device, but the prompts typically originate in iOS/macOS.

What if I don’t see Bluetooth notifications in Settings?

Use the Settings search bar for Bluetooth or Notifications. If you still can’t find it, Focus rules may be driving banner behavior, or your iOS build may not expose a dedicated Bluetooth notification toggle.

Bottom Line

To turn off AirPod notifications fast, match the prompt you see to the feature that generates it—Battery Notifications (Method 1), Find My alerts (Method 2), Announce Notifications in Headphones (Method 3), and Bluetooth-related banners on iPhone/macOS (Methods 4 and 5).

If a toggle “does nothing,” check the other device(s) you use with AirPods and reconnect once after changing settings.
