The required hold varies by model: DJI’s general instructions say about one second, while its Mavic 4 Pro guide specifies two seconds. Check your model’s guide for the exact timing.
Turn off the drone with its Power button
- Keep the aircraft stationary. Locate the Power button on the drone.
- Press the Power button once, then press and hold it. Hold for the time stated in the guide for your model. DJI’s general guide says about one second; the Mavic 4 Pro guide says two seconds. See DJI’s Mavic 4 Pro guide for its model-specific instructions.
- Confirm the aircraft has powered down. If the button sequence does not work, check the model’s user guide before trying a different timing.
Can you turn a DJI drone off with the controller?
It depends on the model. DJI documents the Power button on either the aircraft or remote controller as a way to power off the Mini 4 Pro. For other models, use the shutdown method in that aircraft’s guide rather than assuming the controller’s button will turn off the drone. See the Mini 4 Pro downloads and manual.

Does folding the arms turn the drone off?
Not as a universal DJI feature. On the Mavic 4 Pro, folding the right rear arm can start an automatic power-off countdown if the setting is enabled in DJI Fly. Press the Power button once during the countdown to cancel it. This behavior is specific to the Mavic 4 Pro instructions and should not be assumed for other models; see DJI’s Mavic 4 Pro guide.

DJI lists a failed firmware update or a damaged Power button as possible causes when an aircraft or battery cannot be powered off. If a firmware update failed, DJI advises inserting the battery into the drone and trying the update again. If that does not resolve the problem, or the button is damaged, request a service diagnosis through DJI Support.
