You usually don’t need to upload your livestream again: YouTube can automatically save it as a replay. After the broadcast, look for it in YouTube Studio under Content → Live. From there, change its visibility, trim or cut the replay, or create a separate highlight. Check that the archive exists—YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured—and keep a local recording as a backup.
1. Find the livestream archive
-
When the broadcast ends, open YouTube Studio.
-
Select Content → Live.
-
Find the finished stream and open its details. Confirm that the replay is available before sharing it.

YouTube says it can automatically archive encoder, webcam, and mobile livestreams that are under 12 hours. Its guidance also identifies 1440p and 2160p (4K) streams as automatically archived. These are YouTube’s stated rules, not a guarantee that every broadcast will appear. Streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube recommends recording a local archive as a backup. YouTube Help: Archive live streams
2. Choose who can watch the replay
Open the archive’s details, change Visibility to the setting you want, and save. This lets you make the replay available to the audience you intend rather than assuming its current visibility is right. YouTube also says mobile livestream archives can be made private or deleted from the My videos page. YouTube Help: Archive live streams

YouTube’s current Help guidance says Studio trimming is available for videos shorter than six hours. It edits the existing video without requiring a reupload; YouTube says the URL, views, and comments remain. For an unedited video with more than 100,000 views, saving changes may be restricted unless the channel is in the YouTube Partner Program; face blurring is the stated exception. The same guidance says that, as of June 2025, saved Studio Editor changes can no longer be undone with Revert to original. Treat saving as consequential and review the preview before applying an edit. YouTube Help: Trim your videos
4. Make a separate highlight instead
If the full event is too long for viewers, a highlight creates a shorter video rather than changing the replay. You can make one during a livestream or after it ends. While streaming, add stream markers at useful moments; later, those markers appear on the Editor timeline. Select the segment you want, enter its title, privacy, and description, then create the highlight. YouTube says the highlight is published automatically. YouTube Help: Create a highlight

- Easily store and access 2TB to content on the go with the Seagate Portable Drive, a USB external hard drive
- Designed to work with Windows or Mac computers, this external hard drive makes backup a snap just drag and drop
- To get set up, connect the portable hard drive to a computer for automatic recognition no software required
- This USB drive provides plug and play simplicity with the included 18 inch USB 3.0 cable

Special case: a Short highlight from a mobile livestream
YouTube’s mobile-stream Short highlight path has additional criteria. The livestream must last from 10 minutes to 12 hours, be vertical, use the YouTube mobile app, have chat enabled, not be marked “Made for Kids,” and meet YouTube’s safety standards. These conditions apply to this Short-highlight route, not to keeping a full livestream archive. YouTube Help: Promote your live stream

| Protect an important broadcast against archive loss | Keep a local recording as a backup | YouTube recommends a local archive; its guidance does not prescribe a device or storage capacity. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos between events, StreamNeo is a separate option; it does not turn an already-finished livestream into a replay. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly is $9.99 per month.
