How do I turn a text prompt into a playable game?
Use Playground, Google’s prompt-based game creation platform. Google announced it on October 7, 2026, describing it as “an early experiment designed to make game creation more approachable and ignite everyday creativity.” The basic workflow is to describe a game in ordinary text, generate it, and then play and revise the result.

Playground is distinct from Project Genie, Google’s research prototype for generating and exploring interactive environments from text and images. Playground is the product documented for creating and editing games, publishing them, and exporting game files.

How do I create a game on Playground?
- Open Playground’s creation screen. Check that your account has creation access; availability depends on rollout and eligibility.
- Describe the game. Write a plain-language prompt that says what the player does and what should happen. You can use Playground’s guided creation options, and optionally upload reference photos to influence visual style.
- Select Generate. Wait for the game to generate and compile. Google says processing time varies with traffic and prompt complexity.
- Play the result. Once compilation succeeds, the game becomes playable. If generation fails or times out, Google Help says the held generation credits are automatically refunded; credits are permanently deducted only after a successful compile.
- Refine it with instructions. Ask for clear, focused changes to gameplay logic, graphics, or rules rather than combining many complex changes into one request.
- Choose what happens next. Keep the game as a draft, set its visibility, publish it, or export its files.
How should I write a useful game prompt?
Start with a playable core idea rather than a long list of unrelated features. State the player’s role, the main action, the goal, and any essential rule. For example: “Create a top-down maze game where a robot collects three batteries and reaches the exit while avoiding moving guards.” Then generate the game and add one focused revision at a time, such as changing the guard speed or making collected batteries disappear.

This is practical guidance for keeping requests clear, not a guaranteed prompt formula. Google’s Playground Help recommends focused changes. Google’s separate prompt guide is for Genie 3, not Playground, so its environment-prompt advice should not be treated as a tested Playground recipe.
How do I edit an existing game?
Use conversational directions to request a specific change to the game’s mechanics, visual presentation, or rules. For example, ask to add a timer or change a character’s appearance, then review the updated game before requesting another change. Google’s documented recommendation is to make clear, focused edits instead of bundling multiple complex requests together.

If the game has already been published, edits remain in draft until you publish the changes again. That lets you revise without making every change public immediately.
How can I share, publish, or export a game?
Playground’s documented visibility choices are draft, private, listed, and unlisted. A listed game can be discovered in the community gallery; anyone with the unique link can play an unlisted game. Google says published games go through safety screening aligned with Playground Community Guidelines, and users can report games.

Google Help also documents exporting a game as a ZIP file containing HTML, JavaScript, CSS, and generated assets. This provides source files to take beyond Playground; it does not by itself establish what external tools or development work a particular game will need.
Can I make a multiplayer game?
Yes. Select the multiplayer option in the initial generation chat. Google Help describes both turn-based and real-time multiplayer as early-preview features, and says multiplayer is limited to select genres in the launch announcement. Global platform leaderboards are not available for multiplayer games.

Who can use Playground?
At launch, Google said Playground was available in the United States to users aged 18 or older, with game-creation access rolling out according to Google AI subscription tier. Google’s Help Center says U.S. adults can browse and play the catalog. Free-tier users can join a waitlist for creation access in rolling batches, while a Google One AI plan is listed as a route to immediate creation access. Availability and plan terms can change, so check the live Help Center before relying on a particular access route.

No. Playground is designed to generate and edit games, with documented publishing and source export. Project Genie is a separate Google Labs research prototype focused on generating and exploring interactive environments. Its prompt guidance and documented limitations apply to Genie, not automatically to Playground.

Google has also announced a planned Unity Spark integration aimed at more advanced mechanics, high-fidelity 3D, and the Unity runtime. The announcement described it as in testing, with a closed beta coming soon; it should not be treated as a currently available Playground feature.
