How to Turn a Canva Design Into an Email

Create an email design in Canva, preview and test it, then use a listed destination or HTML export to continue in an email provider.

You can turn a Canva design into an email by creating it in Canva’s Email workflow, previewing and testing it, then sending it to a supported destination or exporting it as HTML for use in an email platform. A JPG, PNG, or PDF download is a static file, not the same thing as an email built for sending through a provider.

Make the design in Canva’s Email workflow

  1. From Canva’s homepage, select Email, or select Create and search for Email. Canva’s interface can change, and the available controls may vary by account.
  2. Choose an email or newsletter template, or start with a blank email design.
  3. Add your message and visual elements. Keep the layout consistent with your brand, and add links to relevant design elements where appropriate.

Canva describes this as an email-design workflow: you create and arrange the content in its editor, then choose how to move it toward recipients.

Preview and test before distributing

Use Canva’s mobile and desktop previews to check the layout at different screen sizes. Then send a test email to an address authorized in Canva and inspect the message itself. Make any needed corrections before proceeding.

These checks help you review how the design appears; they do not establish inbox placement or guarantee that every recipient’s mail app will display it identically. The final imported or sent version should also be inspected in the email provider you plan to use.

Choose how to send or export the email

Route When it fits What to check
Send to a listed destination Use this when your Canva editor offers a destination you already use. Canva names Gmail and Mailchimp on its newsletter page, and its email page also lists Outlook, Klaviyo, Flodesk, and Constant Contact. Confirm the destination is visible and enabled for your account, then check how that provider handles the design. Canva’s destination list does not establish that every provider will render it the same way.
Export as HTML Use this when you want to continue in an external email service. Canva documents HTML export; its developer reference describes email exports as standalone HTML files with hosted assets. Follow the chosen provider’s current import and sending process, then inspect the result there. The export description does not guarantee identical rendering across providers.
Download JPG, PNG, or PDF Use these formats for a static visual copy or a printable newsletter. A downloaded image or PDF is not equivalent to an email-provider workflow. Do not assume it retains interactive email behavior or functions like a provider-native message.

Canva’s newsletter page says, “You can send your custom newsletter directly to Gmail and Mailchimp.” Availability and exact controls can change, so use the destinations currently shown in your editor rather than assuming every account has the same options.

What to check in the email platform

  • Confirm the imported design and its links in the provider’s editor or preview.
  • Send another test from that provider and review the message as received.
  • Check the provider’s current campaign and recipient-list process before sending to a real audience.

Canva’s described workflow does not by itself establish list-management behavior, consent requirements, sender authentication, delivery rates, or legal compliance. Those depend on your provider, audience, and applicable rules.
