To tune a Sonos Arc Ultra, open the Sonos app and select Settings → Your System → Arc Ultra → Sound → Trueplay → Trueplay Tuning. Android users get Quick tuning; on iOS, you can choose Quick or Advanced tuning. Quick tuning uses the Arc Ultra’s built-in microphones, while Advanced tuning uses the iPhone or iPad microphone.

Run Trueplay tuning
- Make sure your setup is ready. Confirm the Arc Ultra and any other Sonos products you want tuned are set up and available in the Sonos app.
- Enable the microphones for Quick tuning. Check that the microphone switch is on for every participating product. The Arc Ultra’s built-in microphones are used for this method.
- Open the tuning controls. In the Sonos app, go to Settings → Your System, select Arc Ultra, then choose Sound → Trueplay → Trueplay Tuning.
- Select a method if prompted. On iOS, choose Quick tuning or Advanced tuning. On Android, the app uses Quick tuning. Follow the instructions displayed in the app.
- For Advanced tuning, move through the room as directed. Keep the room as quiet as practical. Move the iOS device smoothly from head to waist, covering as much of the room as possible. Do not change the speaker volume while the tuning sound plays. Sonos says an advanced room-tuning session takes about three minutes.
Improve a failed or disappointing tune
If tuning fails
- For an iOS tune, check that both the iOS device and speaker remain connected to Wi-Fi.
- Reduce background noise; noise can cause tuning errors.
- Close other apps that are using the iOS microphone, and disconnect Bluetooth headphones or speakers if they interfere.
- If you are using a newly released iOS device, it may not yet have a supported tuning profile.

If the sound is not what you want
Room acoustics and speaker placement can lead Trueplay to boost or reduce frequencies you would rather hear differently. For Advanced tuning, try reducing noise, covering more of the room with smooth movements, and moving the device more slowly; keep the volume unchanged during the tuning sound. You can adjust EQ in the app or toggle Trueplay off temporarily to compare the result with the tuning adjustments disabled. Sonos explains the adjustment controls in its EQ settings guide.

When to tune again
Run Trueplay again if you move the Arc Ultra or change the system configuration—for example, by changing which Sonos products are part of the setup. To compare tuned and untuned playback, return to Settings → Your System → Arc Ultra → Sound → Trueplay and toggle the tuning adjustments.
