Google’s Android Beta for Pixel page lists Android 17 QPR2 Beta as available (checked October 9, 2026). To install it, enroll an eligible Pixel running a public stable build through the official beta page, then check for the update in Settings. Beta software can disrupt normal device operation, and opting out to return to stable Android can erase locally saved data.
Before you enroll
First decide whether you can accept pre-release software and the possibility of needing to wipe the phone if you leave the program. Google warns that beta updates may contain errors or defects that affect normal device operation. Back up important data before enrolling; make a fresh backup before opting out, too. Google cautions that restoring a backup after returning to stable Android may have issues.

- Check eligibility for your account. The device must appear on the Android Beta for Pixel page when you sign in with the Google Account used as the Pixel’s primary account. Eligibility is account- and device-specific; Google does not provide a static model list.
- Check the current software. Google says the Pixel must be running a public stable build to enroll, not a Developer Preview build.
- Choose the beta knowingly. Google describes QPRs as releases for the current stable platform that include feature drops, bug fixes, and performance improvements ahead of the public release schedule. These are still beta updates, not a guarantee of a trouble-free daily-use experience.
Enroll in the Android 17 QPR beta
- On the Pixel, identify the Google Account set as the phone’s primary account. In a browser, sign in to Google’s Android Beta for Pixel page with that account.
- Find the Pixel in the eligible-device list. If it does not appear, do not assume another model is eligible: Google’s program page determines eligibility for the signed-in account.
- Select the device and choose the Android 17 QPR beta program if it is offered. Read and accept the Android Beta Program Terms to enroll. Google allows a device to be enrolled in only one beta program at a time.
- Wait for the update notification. Enrolled devices receive beta updates automatically; delivery may take up to 24 hours, according to Google’s current program FAQ.
- If the update has not arrived after 24 hours, connect the Pixel to the internet and open Settings > System > System update to check.
Check that the Pixel is running a beta build
After installation, open Settings > About phone > Build number. Google’s current program page lists beta build-number prefixes UPB, U1B, AP11, AP21, and AP31. Build identifiers can change between releases, so check Google’s current release notes if the installed build does not match those prefixes. Restarting the phone also displays a message that it is running a beta version.

What to expect from beta updates
Google says enrolled devices may receive up to four updates automatically per month. Monthly security updates are included in beta builds rather than delivered separately. The actual cadence can depend on the program and release cycle; an update count is not a promise that every device will receive four updates each month.

Opt out and return to stable Android
- Back up important data. Google says opting out and installing the stable public release wipes user data, and restoring a backup afterward may have issues.
- Open the Android Beta for Pixel page, locate the enrolled device, and choose Opt out.
- Connect the Pixel to the internet and check for the offered stable update. Google says an update to the latest stable public release may arrive within 24 hours.
- Install the stable update only when you are ready for the wipe. Follow the on-device prompts to complete installation and set up the phone again.
There is a limited no-wipe exception: after installing the stable release for the version being tested, you can opt out without a wipe until you install the next beta update. The timing depends on the release cycle, so check the beta page before relying on this window.
