To troubleshoot LSFG-Android, first determine whether the problem is dropped or irregular frames, a generated-image defect, or added input/display delay. Then check that your device is within the project’s documented hardware scope and change one relevant setting at a time. There is no documented setting that reliably fixes every symptom on every Android device.
Understand how LSFG-Android works
LSFG-Android is an unofficial Android port of the lsfg-vk frame-generation pipeline, not the desktop Lossless Scaling app running with identical settings. Because non-rooted Android cannot hook another app’s Vulkan swapchain through the Linux-style implicit layer, the port captures the screen using Android’s MediaProjection API and composites generated frames in a system overlay. The project describes its architecture in the LSFG-Android repository.

This capture-and-overlay route matters when diagnosing latency: the project README says it adds roughly 50–80 ms compared with the Linux Vulkan layer. That is the project’s stated comparison, not an independent device-by-device measurement or a guaranteed delay for every user. A pacing or artifact control should not be expected to remove this architectural cost.

The project README targets Android 10 (API 29) or newer, lists arm64-v8a as its production ABI and x86_64 for emulators, and says end-to-end operation works on Adreno 7xx-class GPUs and newer. These are project claims, not a certified list of phones or a guarantee of smooth performance in every game. If your GPU is outside that stated class, the reviewed documentation does not establish that frame generation will work well on it.

The README describes LSFG-Android as a sideloaded app rather than a Google Play app. It also says you need to provide a legitimately purchased copy of Lossless Scaling; the Android repository does not ship its DLL. Each MediaProjection session requires explicit consent and displays a persistent system indicator.
Establish a repeatable baseline
Before adjusting settings, record the conditions under which the symptom occurs. Change one variable at a time, repeat the same scene or action, and keep a note of whether the result improved, worsened, or stayed the same.

Diagnose stutter and uneven frame pacing
Stutter often means frames are arriving irregularly or being dropped; it is different from a consistently added delay between input and display. Android Developers explains that at 60 FPS an app has less than 16 ms for each UI frame, and missing that budget can result in a dropped frame perceived as stutter. Its rendering-jank guidance recommends visual inspection and tools such as Profile GPU Rendering and Systrace to investigate Android rendering problems.
Those tools offer general Android diagnostics; they do not, by themselves, identify a fault in LSFG-Android’s native frame-generation path. Use them to look for broader rendering jank, then compare behavior with LSFG disabled if that is practical. If stutter remains without frame generation, the cause may lie elsewhere in the game’s or device’s rendering. If it appears only with LSFG enabled, inspect the LSFG controls below without assuming any one is a proven fix.

Try pacing controls methodically
The project lists pacing presets, a target FPS cap, queue depth, vsync alignment and slack, and EMA jitter smoothing. These controls affect pacing-related behavior, but the README does not prescribe a universal combination for Android. Adjust only the control most relevant to the symptom, repeat the baseline scene, and revert it if consistency gets worse. Avoid changing several options together: doing so makes it difficult to identify which change mattered.
Investigate generated-image artifacts
First identify what the defect looks like and when it appears. Ghosting around moving objects, distortion near edges or borders, and damage to interface elements are different observations; the project documentation does not map each one to a guaranteed setting. Check the anti-artifacts and flow-scale controls individually, comparing the same scene before and after each change.

- Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light and tactile.
- 2 Pro back paddle buttons
- Profile button. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings. Turbo function.
LSFG-Android also exposes a bypass control. It may help isolate whether a visible problem coincides with frame generation, but the README does not describe it as a repair for a specific artifact. Official Lossless Scaling update notes discuss changes to frame pacing, ghosting, and artifact-related behavior in the desktop product. Those notes do not establish that a particular Android build contains the same fix; check the Android project’s own release information before attributing a symptom to an update.
Set realistic expectations for latency
If controls feel delayed, distinguish the project’s capture-and-overlay cost from inconsistent frame delivery or a game-specific problem. LSFG-Android reports roughly 50–80 ms of added latency relative to the Linux Vulkan layer; the project does not present that figure as a universal Android measurement. If added delay is your main complaint, artifact or jitter controls are not documented as a way to eliminate that cost.

The official Lossless Scaling introduction recommends a 60 FPS in-game baseline and a 120 Hz display for best quality; it says some games can work at 30 FPS with a 60 Hz display up to 1080p. This is general desktop LSFG guidance, not a validated Android preset. Treat it as context for understanding frame-rate and refresh-rate relationships, not as a promise that the same setup will solve Android latency or stutter.
When to stop tuning
If your device is outside the documented GPU scope, or if careful one-at-a-time changes do not improve a repeatable symptom, the available project documentation does not support a guaranteed configuration fix. A more specific diagnosis depends on the device and GPU, Android and LSFG-Android versions, target app, frame-rate and refresh-rate conditions, and a reproducible description of the problem. No independent study establishes an Android-wide stutter rate, artifact rate, or device-by-device latency for LSFG-Android.
