Roberts Space Industries (RSI) says the game is still in development and will become downloadable only after development is complete, testing is finished, and it has been released. There is no current Squadron 42 build to repair. If you are having trouble with the RSI Launcher or Star Citizen instead, use the checks below—but those products’ installation instructions do not mean Squadron 42 is available.

First, confirm what you are trying to download
RSI’s support page says Squadron 42 is not available for download. An account pledge containing Squadron 42 does not provide a current installer; RSI says eligible accounts will be able to download it after the game is complete, tested, and released.

RSI notes that packages generally include Star Citizen and a ship, while a standalone Squadron 42 pledge is an exception. Do not treat a launcher error by itself as proof that your account owns a product.

RSI’s separate Star Citizen Launcher installation guide applies to Star Citizen, not to a downloadable Squadron 42 build.
Troubleshoot RSI Launcher or Star Citizen problems
Replace an outdated launcher
If the launcher says “You do not have permission to sign in,” RSI says an improper or outdated launcher version may be responsible. Uninstall the launcher, then download the current version from RSI’s account website. Use the official launcher rather than an old installer.

Clear the launcher cache and close duplicate instances
In the launcher, open Settings and select Clear Launcher Cache. Also check the Windows system tray and Task Manager for other launcher instances. Closing the launcher window may minimize it to the tray, so confirm that an instance is not still running before reopening it.
Confirm the installation path and available storage
A location mismatch can make the launcher behave as though a game is not installed. Check that the configured install location matches the folder where Star Citizen is installed.

RSI’s requirements guidance, published December 17, 2025, calls for a 150+ GB SSD and recommends 10 GB of additional SSD space for the pagefile. RSI’s launcher troubleshooting guidance also recommends at least 100 GB for the launcher and Star Citizen, an SSD, and NTFS formatting; it warns that the launcher does not currently check whether the selected drive has enough free space. These are RSI-published requirements and recommendations, not independent performance benchmarks, and may change. An SSD can meet a storage requirement, but it will not resolve account, launcher, network, or software conflicts by itself. These storage figures concern RSI’s available products and do not make Squadron 42 downloadable.

Verify Star Citizen files if an update or launch fails
- Open the RSI Launcher and go to Settings > Games.
- Select the affected environment and confirm its install location.
- Select Verify and allow the process to finish. Avoid running other resource-intensive applications during verification.
RSI says verification can repair corrupted or broken files. It applies to an existing Star Citizen installation, not to Squadron 42.

For error 4000 and manifest problems, RSI’s troubleshooting guidance names outbound TCP ports 8000–8020 and UDP ports 64090–64110. It also recommends allowing RSI Launcher.exe and StarCitizen.exe through firewall and antivirus software. These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes.

If a session expires, RSI also identifies network issues, VPN settings, and connection-monitoring or protection software as possible factors. If you change a firewall or security setting, do so only if you understand the effect and restore protections that are not needed for testing.
Check Windows prerequisites and software conflicts
RSI advises installing Windows updates and, for relevant Windows editions, the Media Feature Pack. Its troubleshooting article also lists .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5.2. RSI reports a conflict involving Sonic Studio 3 or Sonic Studio Virtual Mixer; that report is a possible lead, not a diagnosis that applies to every launcher problem.

If the problem persists or is not covered by RSI’s troubleshooting guide, search the RSI Issue Council for a matching report or contribute details about your own issue. For a support request, RSI lists DXDiag, game.log, crash-handler files, and log.log as potentially useful diagnostics. Share these files only with RSI support staff, not in public posts.
RSI’s launcher troubleshooting guide was updated August 19, 2026. Its instructions address RSI Launcher and Star Citizen issues; they do not provide a way to download or launch Squadron 42.
