Identify which Gemini experience is failing
“Gemini” can mean three separate access paths. A check that applies to one does not automatically apply to the others, and Gemini in Chrome is not simply another name for the Gemini web app.

Start by noting the exact surface, device, account type, country or territory, and language. This prevents a common mistake: applying Gemini in Chrome’s staged-rollout rules to gemini.google.com, or assuming that web access guarantees mobile-app access.
Check eligibility before treating the problem as a technical failure
Confirm the Google Account type
For the web app, Google says personal Google Accounts can be used. A work account is different: it needs a qualifying Google Workspace edition, and the user must be at least 18. If the account belongs to a school, the institution must enable Gemini before a student or staff member can use it. A sign-in that succeeds in other Google services therefore does not establish Gemini eligibility.

If you are signed in to more than one account, identify which account is active in the Gemini tab or app. An eligible personal account and an ineligible managed account can produce different results on the same device. Test only with an account you are authorized to use, and do not bypass an organization’s administrator settings.
Check the correct availability list
Google’s web availability page says Gemini is available in more than 230 countries and territories and more than 70 languages. Those figures describe the web app’s published availability page as accessed on October 13, 2026; they are Google’s current counts, not an independent measurement of service coverage.
The mobile app has a separate list. Google’s mobile availability page says it covers more than 150 countries. A country appearing on the web list does not establish that the Android or iOS app is offered there, and an app listing does not prove that every web feature is available in that location.
Check the current list for the exact product you are trying to open. Do not infer worldwide availability from a friend’s account, an older article, or a country that is merely nearby. Language support also matters: a supported country does not mean every interface or capability is offered in every language.

Verify the browser for the web app
Google lists Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Edgium as supported browsers for the Gemini web app. If you are using another browser or an embedded browser inside another application, move the test to one of those named browsers. That is an eligibility check, not proof that changing browsers will repair every failure.
Keep the product distinction clear. “Gemini in Chrome” has its own feature requirements and rollout status. Opening the web app in Chrome is not the same as having the Gemini in Chrome feature enabled.
Step-by-step checks for the Gemini web app
Use this sequence when gemini.google.com is blank, will not finish loading, or accepts a prompt but does not return a response.

- Record the surface and symptom. Write down whether you are using the web app in a browser, the mobile app, or Gemini in Chrome. Note whether you see a sign-in page, an eligibility message, a blank page, an endless loading indicator, or a sent prompt with no answer. These symptoms identify different questions even though users often call all of them “Gemini not responding.”
- Move to a supported browser. Use Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, or Edgium, as listed by Google for the web app. Open the official address directly rather than an old bookmark or an embedded view. If the page works in one supported browser but not another, keep that observation for a later report; it does not by itself establish the cause.
- Confirm the active account. Sign in with the account you intend to use. Personal accounts are eligible according to Google’s web guidance. For a work account, verify both the qualifying Workspace edition and the 18-or-older requirement. For a school account, ask whether the institution has enabled Gemini.
- Check location and language. Compare your country or territory and preferred language with Google’s current web availability information. If you are traveling, using an account managed in another region, or selecting a language outside the published list, record those details rather than assuming a general outage.
- Separate access from response failure. If the page never opens or does not allow sign-in, continue with browser, account, and availability checks. If the page opens and a prompt is submitted but no answer arrives, record the prompt time, the exact on-screen wording, and whether a new conversation behaves differently. Google’s cited pages do not establish a universal diagnosis for this second category.
- Do not declare a live outage from one failed attempt. The official material used for these checks does not verify a current general Gemini Apps outage. A local eligibility issue, an unsupported surface, and a broad service incident can look similar from the user’s screen. Treat the cause as unresolved unless Google provides a status or message that identifies it.
These checks establish whether you are using the documented surface and an eligible account. They do not guarantee that every response-generation failure has an official, published self-service fix.

When the Gemini mobile app will not load or respond
The mobile app must be assessed separately from the browser experience. First confirm that you installed or opened the Gemini app for the correct mobile platform and that your country is included on Google’s current mobile availability page, which lists more than 150 countries.
If the app is unavailable in your country
Web availability does not override mobile distribution rules. If the mobile list does not include your country, the absence of the app or an access restriction is an availability issue rather than evidence that your phone is defective. Use the web app only if your location, language, browser, and account meet its separate requirements.
If the app opens but does not answer
Check the signed-in account type and the language or region you selected, then document the exact screen and message. Google’s material cited here does not publish a complete mobile decision tree covering every spinner, crash, or unanswered prompt. Do not present a web-browser remedy as an official mobile fix.

Gemini in Chrome: the checks Google specifically recommends
Gemini in Chrome is a Chrome feature, not a synonym for the Gemini web app. Google says it is being rolled out over time, so two people using Chrome can have different availability even when they are in the same country.
- Sign in to Chrome. Use the Chrome profile associated with an eligible user. Being signed in to a Google website in a tab is not the same as having the required Chrome profile signed in.
- Confirm regional support. Check that the feature is supported in your current region. Do not assume that Chrome’s global installation makes the feature available everywhere.
- Restart Chrome. Close and reopen the browser after confirming the profile and region. This is one of Google’s documented Gemini-in-Chrome checks.
- Turn off a VPN if needed. Google specifically includes disabling a VPN in its Gemini-in-Chrome guidance. A VPN can make the apparent region differ from the user’s actual location, so record whether the result changes after it is disabled.
- Allow for staged rollout. If the profile, region, restart, and VPN checks are all correct but the feature is still absent, the staged rollout may explain the difference. Chrome availability does not establish that the feature has reached every eligible user.
Do not transfer this sequence wholesale to the web app or mobile app. The restart and VPN instructions cited here are scoped to Gemini in Chrome.
Classify the message without guessing the cause

What to include
- The surface: web app, mobile app, or Gemini in Chrome.
- Your browser or mobile platform and the account category: personal, work, or school.
- Your country or territory and selected language.
- The exact text of any error, whether the page loaded, and whether a prompt was submitted.
- For Gemini in Chrome, whether Chrome was signed in, whether the region was supported, whether you restarted Chrome, and whether a VPN was disabled.
- The approximate date and time of the failure.
Review attached content before sending
Google says feedback may collect the associated conversation and any included files, images, or Connected Apps personal content. Read the material attached to the report and remove anything you do not want to submit. A concise description of the failure is preferable to attaching unrelated private information.
What the official guidance does—and does not—answer
The documented checks establish account eligibility, supported browsers for the web app, country and language availability, separate mobile coverage, and the Chrome-specific profile, region, restart, and VPN steps. They also provide an in-product reporting path.
They do not verify that Gemini Apps is experiencing a general outage on any particular day, and they do not provide a complete official decision tree for every blank page, endless spinner, unanswered prompt, or generic error. They also do not, in the material cited here, diagnose cache, cookies, browser extensions, DNS, a device fault, or an internet subscription as the cause. Avoid presenting any of those explanations as Google’s finding.
That boundary matters when deciding what to do next. If the account, surface, region, language, and product-specific checks all match the published requirements, the most accurate next step is to document the failure and send feedback when access permits—not to claim a cause that Google has not established.
