How to Troubleshoot Broken Extensions or Websites After a Floorp Update

A step-by-step way to find out whether a broken extension or website after a Floorp update is caused by an add-on, site data, tracking protection, Firefox changes, or Floorp itself.

If an extension or website stops working after a Floorp update, first check the exact Floorp version and its release notes, then isolate extensions, themes, and hardware acceleration. If only one site is affected, test its stored data and tracking-protection settings. These checks help identify whether the likely cause is Floorp, an upstream Firefox change, an add-on, your profile, or the website itself; they do not guarantee that every update regression can be fixed locally.

Start by identifying what changed

Note your Floorp version, operating system, when the problem began, and its scope. Is one extension failing, are all extensions affected, is one website broken, or is Floorp unstable or rendering its interface incorrectly? That distinction determines which checks are useful.

  1. Open Floorp’s About or version-information screen and record the installed version.
  2. Check the Floorp release notes for that version and any later patch. Floorp says to consult Firefox release notes for changes introduced upstream.
  3. Compare the timing and symptom with the relevant Firefox notes, but treat a match as a clue rather than proof that the update caused your particular problem.

There is a documented example: Floorp’s v12.15.0–v12.15.2 notes, published June 16, 2026, linked Firefox 152 changes to extension compatibility issues, UI rendering problems, and stability concerns. The project wrote, “Firefox 152 included several breaking changes to internal APIs and behavior.” The same notes list subsequent fixes, so check the current notes rather than assuming that incident remains unresolved or explains an unrelated symptom.

Check whether extensions, theme, or graphics acceleration are involved

An add-on conflict, custom theme, or graphics acceleration issue can resemble a browser regression. Mozilla’s Troubleshoot Mode temporarily disables extensions, switches to the default theme, and turns off hardware acceleration. If the problem disappears in that mode, one of those factors is a likely lead. If it remains, those temporarily disabled factors are less likely; preferences or other causes may still be involved.

Floorp’s menus may not match Firefox’s exactly. Use the equivalent Floorp diagnostic mode if available; otherwise, test the factors individually:

  1. Disable extensions and retest the failing action or page.
  2. If that resolves it, re-enable extensions one at a time, restarting and retesting as needed, until the conflict returns. With many extensions, Mozilla also describes re-enabling half at a time to narrow the search faster.
  3. Check for an update to the likely add-on and retest. Avoid removing every extension or disabling compatibility safeguards as a blanket fix.
  4. If extensions are not the cause, test the default theme and hardware acceleration separately, if Floorp provides those controls.

See Mozilla’s Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems for its explanation of Troubleshoot Mode and extension-isolation techniques.

If only one website is broken

A failure limited to one site may come from stale cookies or site data, a content-blocking extension, tracking protection, or the site itself. Try these checks in order:

  1. Clear cookies and site data for the affected site, then reload it. This may sign you out, so make sure you can sign back in before clearing the data.
  2. Temporarily disable extensions that block content or change page appearance—such as ad blockers, privacy or script blockers, and appearance customizers—and reload.
  3. Open the site in another browser. If it fails there too, the website itself is a more likely source. If it works elsewhere, continue investigating Floorp-specific settings or behavior.
  4. If tracking protection appears to be blocking the page, turn it off for that site only as a diagnostic, reload once, then restore protection. A site-specific exception preserves protection elsewhere; it is not a general reason to weaken your privacy settings.

If the site works only while tracking protection is off, report the broken-site behavior through Mozilla’s website-breakage reporting route, or include it in a Floorp report if the problem appears specific to Floorp. Mozilla’s guide to websites that look wrong or different covers site data and related checks.

Work out where a persistent problem belongs

Before reporting the issue, classify what your checks show. A problem limited to one add-on points toward that add-on; one site failing in multiple browsers points more toward the site; behavior that changes in a diagnostic mode points toward one of the factors it disables. A failure that remains in Floorp but not another browser may be Floorp-specific, upstream Firefox-related, or tied to your profile or preferences; those tests alone do not prove which.

Floorp’s troubleshooting documentation directs users to its Issue Tracker section and checklist, with unresolved issues reported through GitHub or Discord. Its FAQ also advises checking whether a problem is truly Floorp-specific rather than caused by upstream Firefox, an add-on, or a profile. Include the evidence that helps distinguish those possibilities:

Floorp’s FAQ says Floorp 12 is based on Firefox Rapid Release rather than ESR, and that upstream updates can affect its settings page. It also says Floorp 11 and 12 are not fully compatible. Do not apply advice written for Floorp 11’s Firefox ESR basis to Floorp 12 without confirming it applies to your version.
