To troubleshoot a PDFCrowd PDF, first identify whether the defect is in the PDF page geometry, the way the webpage is fitted to the page, or the way content flows across pages. For blank pages, check blank-page removal and then inspect spacing and page-break CSS. For clipped headers or footers, adjust their reserved height separately from the page margins.
First locate what is being clipped
Work out whether the problem affects the main document, a header or footer, or one wide component. Each points to a different setting:

- Main content is cut off: check page size, orientation, margins, content viewport width, and content fit mode.
- A component is too wide or has an unexpected responsive layout: check the content viewport width first, then the fit mode.
- Header, footer, or logo is cut off: check the reserved header or footer height and the template dimensions, not just the page margins.
- Blank pages appear inside the document or at its end: check blank-page removal and then investigate source spacing and page-break behavior.

Fix clipped or unexpectedly scaled main content
Check page size, orientation, and margins
Start with the PDF page’s dimensions and margins. PDFCrowd’s HTTP reference lists A4 as the default page size and 0.4in as the default for each individual margin. These are product defaults, not necessarily the right layout for your document. Confirm that the selected page size and orientation suit the output, then make sure the margins leave enough room for the main content. PDFCrowd HTTP API reference

Page geometry does not determine the source webpage’s responsive layout. If the page switches to a mobile-looking arrangement or content remains too wide, changing margins alone may not solve it.
Set the content viewport width
When the webpage is using an unexpected responsive layout or is too wide for the PDF, test a wider content viewport. PDFCrowd’s FAQ suggests trying large or a specific value such as 1024px. Check the resulting page layout rather than assuming a larger viewport is always better: the source site may rearrange or resize content at different widths. PDFCrowd FAQ
Choose a content fit mode
If the viewport is appropriate but the content still does not fit, compare content fit modes. PDFCrowd’s FAQ suggests smart-scaling as a first value to try for many wide pages. By contrast, no-scaling can leave content cut off when it extends beyond page boundaries. Use scale_factor only for small adjustments when the layout is already correct; it is not the first fix for an incorrect responsive layout. PDFCrowd FAQ
The HTTP API reference lists these content fit modes: auto, smart-scaling, no-scaling, viewport-width, content-width, single-page, and single-page-ratio. PDFCrowd says this parameter is available for converters version 24.04 and later. Changing the mode can affect relative sizing and page composition, so compare legibility, clipping, page count, and the intended page format. Remove blank pages without hiding intentional pages
Choose blank-page removal based on where the unwanted pages occur. PDFCrowd lists none, trailing, and all; the option is available for converters version 20.10 and later. Check the converter version used by your job before using it. PDFCrowd HTTP API reference

If a blank page remains, inspect the source page and any PDF-specific CSS for excess vertical spacing, fixed-height sections, and page-break rules. A section that occupies more vertical space than expected can push later content onto another page or leave a page apparently empty.
Review page-break rules and complex layouts
Page-break CSS can start a section on a new page or help keep an element together. PDFCrowd cautions that page-break rules may not behave as expected inside complex layouts. If the problem is isolated to a section using flexbox or grid, try simplifying that section’s PDF-specific CSS and check the new output. PDFCrowd FAQ

Use a continuous page only when that is the intended output
PDFCrowd documents page_height=-1 as a way to create one vertically expanding PDF page. That can suit a continuous capture, but it is not intended as a general fix for conventional printable documents with standard page breaks. PDFCrowd FAQ · HTTP API reference
Fix clipped headers, footers, and logos separately
PDFCrowd treats header and footer heights as additional to the page margins. Those reserved areas take space away from the main content, but do not automatically expand when the HTML template is taller than the reserved height. If header or footer text, an image, a border, or padding is clipped, increase the corresponding reserved height or reduce the template’s dimensions. PDFCrowd FAQ

- Template is clipped: compare its full rendered height—including text, images, borders, and padding—with the configured header or footer height.
- Main content has too little room: remember that increasing header or footer height reduces the space left for document content.
- URL-based image or template is missing: check that the URL is reachable by the converter and that its response contains the expected image or HTML.
- Header styling differs from the document: include the required CSS in the header or footer template; the main document’s styles do not carry over automatically.
Decide whether to use the site’s print styles
If the website has a print stylesheet that lays out the content correctly, enable PDFCrowd’s Use Print Media option so the converter uses print CSS. If those styles hide material needed in the PDF, leave the option disabled and adjust the viewport, fit mode, margins, or conversion-specific CSS instead. PDFCrowd FAQ

- Reproduce and classify the defect. Note whether it affects main content, a header or footer, a wide component, or a page break.
- For clipped main content, verify page geometry. Check page size, orientation, and each margin.

- Compare print and screen styling. Enable Use Print Media only if the print stylesheet retains the content the PDF needs.
- Review the finished PDF at its intended reading size. Confirm that the fix did not make text too small, remove intentional blank pages, or create an unsuitable page format.
