- Antivirus or other anti-malware software blocking installation files.
- Missing critical or important Windows updates.
- Corrupted Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files.
- Corrupted registry keys or Windows system files.
AMD does not publish cause frequencies or guarantee that a particular fix will resolve an individual installation.

1. Install available Windows updates
Install available critical and important Windows updates, then restart if Windows requests it. AMD recommends applying updates before retrying the AMD Software Package. Once Windows is up to date, try the installation again; if Error 1603 remains, continue to the package check.
2. Download the full package for your graphics product
Use AMD’s Driver and Support page to select the package compatible with both your graphics product and Windows version. AMD recommends the full Radeon Software package. Follow AMD’s Windows installation guidance for the installation process, then retry.

3. Check for security-software or service conflicts
Security software may block files during setup. Check whether your antivirus or anti-malware product reported or quarantined an AMD installer file. If you temporarily change a security setting to test installation, use the product’s documented method and restore protection immediately afterward; do not leave the PC unprotected.
AMD also advises checking that required Windows services, including Plug and Play, are available and running. If the installer still fails, a selective startup can help determine whether a non-Microsoft service or startup item is interfering. Use Microsoft’s current instructions for your Windows version, and note any settings you change so you can restore normal startup afterward.

4. Repair Windows components if the error persists
If Windows files or runtimes are damaged, retrying the AMD installer may not help until those components are repaired. AMD recommends replacing corrupted Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable files and using DISM and System File Checker (SFC) to inspect and repair Windows components. Follow Microsoft’s current instructions for your Windows version when running these repairs; do not remove or replace system components based on guesswork.
5. Remove conflicting AMD components when appropriate
If an existing AMD installation is blocking an upgrade or uninstall, AMD suggests using the AMD Cleanup Utility or Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter to remove conflicting components. Use cleanup when it fits the situation, then install the compatible full package again. These utilities address possible conflicts; they do not guarantee a fix for every Error 1603.

6. Send the installer log to AMD support
If the recommended checks do not resolve the error, contact AMD Customer Care and include the installer log AMD requests:
C:Program FilesAMDCIMLogInstall.logPut “Error 1603” in the service request subject and describe the Windows version, graphics product, steps already tried, and whether the failure occurs during a new installation or an update. The log and those details can help support investigate the specific failure.
