In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, use Reforge to change a piece of equipment’s appearance while keeping its stats. First unlock the right craftsman, then collect the look you want and apply it to a matching equipment category. Reforge is a Remastered feature; older versions do not have this native system.
What Reforge changes—and what it leaves alone
CD PROJEKT RED describes the feature this way: “You can now Reforge your equipment to change its appearance without affecting its stats.” The item you choose as the target keeps its existing stats, so you can use the look of one piece without giving up the protection or damage values of another. Blood and Wine dyes already applied to equipment carry over; Reforge does not make every item dyeable.

Reforge is available in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered, released September 29, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Unlock Reforge’s two craftsmen
Unlock Yoana for armor
- In Velen, speak with Fergus Graem at Crow’s Perch to begin Master Armorers.
- Finish the quest to unlock Yoana’s master-armor services. A September 30, 2026 guide lists level 24 as a recommendation and notes an Ice Troll and Archgriffin; those are quest guidance, not Reforge requirements.
Unlock Hattori for weapons
- In Novigrad, complete Of Swords and Dumplings.
- After the quest, Éibhear Hattori offers his master swordsmith services.
Current Reforge menu reporting assigns armor to Yoana and weapons to Hattori. If your menu differs, confirm the game version and build; labels and details can vary by localization or update.

Collect the appearance you want
You must first unlock an appearance. The official patch notes say to add equipment or its crafting diagram to your inventory. If an item in your stash or an older save is not showing up, move the relevant item into your inventory once and check again.
The appearance has to match the target’s category. For example, a steel sword look cannot be applied to a silver sword, and an armor appearance cannot be used on a weapon. The current menu categories reported for Remastered are:
- Chest armor
- Gloves
- Trousers
- Boots
- Steel swords
- Silver swords
- Crossbows
These granular menu details were reported from Steam build 25646871 on October 4, 2026; they may differ with another build, save, or mods. The guide also reports that internal body meshes are not included as Reforge categories.

Apply a look without losing your gear’s stats
- Equip the item whose stats you want to keep.
- Visit the appropriate craftsman: Yoana for armor or Hattori for weapons.
- Open Reforge, select the equipped target, and choose an unlocked appearance in the same category.
- Review the preview and the fee shown on the confirmation screen, then confirm if you want to proceed.
The equipped-target workflow and menu wording are based on secondary reporting and can vary by build or localization. Use the in-game preview and confirmation screen as the final check before committing.

There is no single flat fee established for every change. A current guide reports that the cost varies by equipment category and the quality of the chosen appearance. Check the exact amount in the confirmation screen for each Reforge rather than assuming a price from another item or save.
Why Reforge or an appearance might be missing
- The feature itself is absent: verify you are playing Remastered, not an older edition, and check your platform’s current build.
- A craftsman does not offer it: complete that character’s relevant questline—Master Armorers for Yoana or Of Swords and Dumplings for Hattori.
- The desired look is not listed: collect the matching equipment or crafting diagram; if it is in a stash, move it into inventory and check again.
- The look cannot be selected for the item: confirm both are in the same category, including steel versus silver swords.
- The dye does not apply: Reforge preserves dyes already applied, but dye eligibility still follows the original Blood and Wine dye system.
