Use Cross Progression to move a Witcher 3 save into the Complete Edition: enable it on the version with your save, link a CD PROJEKT RED account, create a save and confirm the cloud icon appears, then link the same account on the destination and load the save from the game menu. On consoles, this is the documented way to continue a base-game playthrough in a different edition.
Transfer your save with Cross Progression
- Update the source game. For a PS4-to-PS5 transfer, CD PROJEKT RED specifically instructs players to update the PS4 game to Patch 4.04. See the PlayStation transfer instructions.
- Enable Cross Progression on the source version. Open Load Game and use the Cross Progression control. Link the game to your CD PROJEKT RED account if prompted. Menu wording or placement may vary by platform.
- Create a new save. Check that a cloud icon appears beside it. Cross Progression makes the latest save for each save type available through the cloud. CD PROJEKT RED’s Cross Progression guide explains the feature.
- Link the destination version to the same account. Use My Rewards to sign in. The account must match the one linked to the source version. Open My Rewards.
- Load the transferred save. On the destination, open Load Game and select the cloud save.
Check edition and DLC compatibility
On consoles, local saves from the regular/base game and the GOTY or Complete Edition are treated as saves from separate products; they do not directly match. CD PROJEKT RED identifies Cross Progression as the route for continuing a base-game playthrough across those editions. Read the support guidance on saves the game cannot recognize.

The destination must also have the content used by the save. A base-game save without expansions can load in Complete Edition, but a save made with expansions or DLC cannot load in a base-game installation unless the required content is installed. Special cases: PlayStation and Switch
PS4 to PS5
Follow the PS4-to-PS5 sequence above, including Patch 4.04 on PS4: link the account through My Rewards, create a source save so it uploads, then connect the PS5 version to that same account and load the save. Official PlayStation transfer steps.

Nintendo Switch saves
If your Switch save used the older GOG/Steam cloud-save integration, use Cross Progression introduced in update 4.04 instead. Link your account, create a save and confirm its cloud icon, then open Load Game on the destination platform. See the Switch-specific guide.

Names and editions have changed. CD PROJEKT RED’s September 2026 FAQ says the Base Game is replaced by Complete Edition, with the two expansions merged in. Its Remastered FAQ says existing Witcher 3 saves are compatible with Remastered, but skills reset because the skill system was overhauled. The company announced on September 29, 2026 that Remastered replaces Complete Edition on supported platforms. Availability and the label you see therefore depend on platform; check which version you are launching before following an older guide. If the save does not appear or load
- Confirm Cross Progression is enabled on the source and destination, and that both are linked to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
- Make a fresh source save and look for its cloud icon; simply launching the game does not replace this upload step.
- Check that the destination has the expansions and DLC used in the save.
- On console, if moving between base and GOTY/Complete products, use Cross Progression rather than expecting the local save list to carry over.
