For a new or not-yet-set-up iPhone, use Apple’s Move to iOS during setup: choose From Android, pair your Galaxy using the on-screen code, select content, and keep both phones powered and undisturbed until the iPhone’s progress bar finishes. It moves many everyday items, but not literally everything: music, books and PDFs need manual transfer, while apps, purchases, sign-ins and eSIM activation can require separate steps.
Choose the transfer route that fits your iPhone

Apple’s current Move from Android to iPhone or iPad guide covers the setup flow, cable option and eligibility details. If you use a cable, it is optional; do not buy one until you confirm it works with your specific Galaxy and iPhone.

What Move to iOS can transfer—and what still needs attention
Apple lists these supported categories: contacts; message history and SMS; camera photos and videos; photo albums; files and folders; accessibility and display settings; web bookmarks; mail accounts; WhatsApp messages and media; Voice Memos; call history; and calendars. The content that appears can depend on the devices and transfer conditions.

Some free apps may be matched when they are available in both Google Play and the App Store and support the transfer feature. That does not mean every app will appear or that its data, paid purchase, subscription or login will carry over. Plan to reinstall apps and sign in again where needed.

- Move manually: Apple says music, books and PDFs need manual transfer. Its manual-transfer guide describes approaches for mail, contacts, calendars, photos, videos, music, books and PDFs, documents, and apps. (Use the exact guide URL linked by Apple: Move content manually.)
- Check phone service: The migration may offer to transfer a phone number or SIM/eSIM, but activation can require carrier help. Apple notes that moving an eSIM from a non-Apple smartphone may require contacting the network provider. See its eSIM transfer guidance and contact your carrier if service does not activate.
Prepare both phones before starting
- Turn on Wi-Fi on the Galaxy and connect both phones to power.
- Check that the selected data will fit in the iPhone. Include content stored on a Galaxy microSD card when estimating what needs to move.
- If Chrome bookmarks matter, update Chrome on Android before beginning.
- Allow time for the transfer to finish; duration depends on how much content you are moving.
Transfer with Move to iOS
- Start iPhone setup. Continue through setup until the transfer screen appears, then select From Android.
- Open Move to iOS on the Galaxy. Follow its prompts and accept the requested permissions.
- Pair the phones. Enter the code displayed on the iPhone in the Galaxy app. The iPhone creates a temporary Wi-Fi network; connect to it when prompted.
- Select what to move. Choose the available content categories on the Galaxy. If you are using an eligible device’s app-free path, follow the QR-code pairing instructions shown during iPhone setup instead.
- Leave the transfer running. Keep the Move to iOS screen open on the Galaxy, keep the devices near each other and connected to power, and do not use another app or answer a call on Android. Wait until the progress bar on the iPhone completes before using either phone.
- Finish setup and verify. Complete iPhone setup, then check key items such as contacts, recent messages, photos, files and calendars. Reinstall apps or complete account and carrier steps as needed.
If the iPhone is already set up
You have two choices. To use the full Move to iOS setup flow, back up anything important on the iPhone, erase it, and begin setup again. Otherwise, leave the iPhone intact and move content category by category using Apple’s manual-transfer instructions. That guide covers different routes for accounts, photos and videos, music, books and PDFs, documents, and apps; there is no single manual method that transfers every category at once.

Fix a stalled or incomplete transfer
- It appears stuck: Keep the phones undisturbed while the iPhone progress bar is moving; the process can take a while depending on the amount of content. If it genuinely stalls, Apple recommends disabling Android settings that can interfere with Wi-Fi, forgetting saved networks, restarting both devices, or turning off Android cellular data before trying again.
- Some content is missing: Confirm the iPhone’s progress bar finished and that Move to iOS stayed onscreen on the Galaxy. Using another app or answering a call before completion can prevent content from transferring. Move unsupported items such as music, books and PDFs manually.
- The iPhone ran out of storage: Apple says to erase the iPhone and retry only after confirming the Android content you selected will fit.
- Phone service is unavailable: If number or eSIM transfer did not complete, check with your carrier; support may be needed to activate the line.
