If setup is finished, use Xiaomi’s Mi Mover on both phones: set the old phone as the sender, the POCO as the receiver, choose the categories you want, and transfer them over a local Wi-Fi Direct connection. Xiaomi documents migration from Android phones and iPhones, but the exact choices depend on your POCO model, software version, region and the source phone.
Keep both phones charged, nearby and awake. The instructions below cover cable and wireless setup, Android-to-POCO and iPhone-to-POCO migration, selected-file sharing after setup, privacy considerations and the most common failure points.

Choose the right transfer route
There are two practical ways to move a large set of data, plus one option for individual files. The first is the copy-data flow shown by the POCO during initial setup. The second is Mi Mover, which you can run after setup or whenever your model exposes it. Xiaomi Share is useful for sending selected files later, but it is not a whole-phone migration tool.
| Route | Best time to use it | Source phones | Connection and scope | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| POCO setup copy-data flow | Before you finish setting up the new POCO | Android or iPhone, depending on the model and screen shown | Cable when compatible, or a wireless/backup path offered on screen; categories are selected during setup | The POCO C40 guide documents these routes. Other POCO models can show different menus. |
| Mi Mover | After setup, or when the setup wizard directs you to it | Android phones, including other Android brands, and iPhones migrating to a new Xiaomi phone | Local Wi-Fi Direct, peer-to-peer; choose categories and start the transfer | Availability and category lists vary by model, software version and source-phone compatibility. |
| Xiaomi Share | After setup for a few files | Compatible Xiaomi and Apple devices, subject to Xiaomi’s stated app and Bluetooth requirements | Selected-file sharing, not a complete device migration | Apple-device workflows may require the Xiaomi Interconnectivity app, Bluetooth and the same local network. |
If you are still on the welcome screens, start there rather than installing extra tools. If you already reached the home screen, Mi Mover is the more direct full-migration route. Check the model-specific guide and the labels on your own POCO before assuming that a particular button or category exists.

Prepare both phones before copying
A transfer can take substantially longer than a normal file share because it may include contacts, messages, call history, calendar events, apps and files. Preparation reduces interruptions and prevents a nearly complete transfer from failing when a phone sleeps or runs out of power.
- Charge both phones to at least 30 percent. Xiaomi gives this as the minimum operating recommendation for Mi Mover.
- Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on both devices. Mi Mover’s payload uses Wi-Fi Direct; it does not consume mobile-data allowance according to Xiaomi’s support instructions.
- Install the latest available Mi Mover version on each phone when the app is offered for that device. Use the official Xiaomi distribution or the app path presented by the phone, not an unknown download site.
- Keep the two phones close together on a stable surface. Do not put one in a bag or move it out of range while the transfer is running.
- Remove enough space on the POCO for the categories you intend to copy. If storage is tight, plan to transfer in smaller groups rather than selecting everything at once.
- Have account credentials available for services that require a fresh sign-in after migration. A copied app is not necessarily an authenticated session.
- Do not erase or factory-reset the old phone until you have opened the important contacts, messages, photos, documents and calendar entries on the POCO.
Copy data during the POCO’s first setup
The setup wizard is the cleanest route because it can establish the new phone while it is still empty. The exact wording differs between POCO models and software releases. The POCO C40 user guide, for example, documents copying from either Android or iPhone and provides cable and no-cable paths. Treat that guide as model-specific rather than a promise that every POCO has identical screens.
Android source during setup
- Turn on the new POCO and proceed through language, region and network screens until the wizard offers to copy or bring data from another phone.
- Choose the Android-source option. If the wizard asks whether the phones are connected by cable, select the cable route only when you have a compatible cable and both connectors fit without an adapter that the phones do not support.
- Connect the phones if prompted, unlock the old Android phone and approve the connection requests shown on either screen.
- If you are transferring wirelessly, follow the pairing instructions displayed by the POCO. Keep both screens on while the wizard discovers the old phone.
- Review the categories offered by the wizard, select what you need, and start the copy. The list can differ from Mi Mover’s list.
- Leave the phones undisturbed until the wizard reports completion. Finish account setup, then inspect the copied information before wiping the old phone.
The C40 documentation does not specify a universal cable connector. Check the ports on your particular POCO and source phone and follow the cable prompt on screen; do not buy a connector based only on the phone family name.
iPhone source during setup
- On the POCO setup screen, choose the option for an iPhone or iOS device when it appears.
- Use the cable path if the wizard explicitly supports the cable and you have the required compatible connection. Otherwise choose the wireless or backup path presented by the POCO.
- The POCO C40 guide describes selecting an iPhone device without a cable and continuing through the setup flow. Follow the exact prompts rather than substituting an Android-only option.
- If the guide offers an iPhone backup route, create or select the backup requested by the wizard. The C40 instructions also describe backing up an iPhone and an iCloud account to Drive so the new phone can synchronize with it. This is a C40-specific instruction; other models may use different services or screens.
- Choose the categories the setup wizard can import, wait for the transfer to finish, and then verify the resulting contacts, messages, media and files on the POCO.
An iPhone migration can ask you to sign in to an Apple account or approve a verification step. Enter credentials only into the official on-device flow, confirm that the account and destination are correct, and read the current prompts before proceeding.
Use Mi Mover after setup
Mi Mover is Xiaomi’s dedicated migration flow for moving selected categories from an old device to a new Xiaomi phone. Xiaomi states that it supports Android sources, including phones from other Android manufacturers, and iPhones migrating to a new Xiaomi phone. Whether the app is preinstalled, downloadable or exposed in Settings depends on the POCO model and its software.

Start the sender and receiver roles
- Open Mi Mover on both phones. If you cannot find it, use the POCO’s Settings search or the model’s support guide to locate the transfer utility.
- On the old phone, choose the role labelled sender, old device or equivalent.
- On the new POCO, choose receiver, new device or equivalent.
- Accept the connection request shown by the receiving phone. The app will create a local connection between the devices; no mobile-data plan is required for the transfer itself.
- When the category list appears, select the data you want and start the transfer.
Keep the transfer alive
Mi Mover uses Wi-Fi Direct and is described by Xiaomi as local and peer-to-peer. Keep the phones close, leave their screens on and keep Mi Mover in the foreground. Do not launch games, switch aggressively between apps, enable a battery-saving mode that suspends background activity, or turn off Wi-Fi or Bluetooth while the progress indicator is moving.
When Mi Mover reports completion, allow both phones a few minutes to finish indexing files and installing or arranging copied apps. Open representative items from every important category rather than relying only on the completion message.

The app may offer contacts, messages, call history, calendar data, applications and files. Xiaomi’s privacy policy lists these types as information Mi Mover may handle for a transfer, but the categories available to you depend on the source phone, permissions and software version. Selecting fewer categories can shorten the first pass and makes it easier to identify a problem. You can run another transfer later for a category you skipped.
What to expect when moving from Android
Android-to-POCO is normally the least complicated route because both devices expose similar data types and permissions. Nevertheless, the old phone may ask for access to contacts, call history, messages, files or calendars. Grant only the permissions needed for the categories you selected, and read each system prompt before accepting.
Mi Mover can copy an application package or app entry, but that does not guarantee that the app’s private database, downloaded offline content, security key or logged-in session will work on the POCO. After migration, open important apps and complete any sign-in, update or verification they request. For files, compare the source folders with the destination folders and check a few large items, not just thumbnails.

If the Android phone is from another manufacturer, names for permissions, battery controls and file locations may differ. Use the sender role in Mi Mover rather than trying to make the old phone appear as a receiver. If discovery fails, keep both screens unlocked, turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off and on again, and restart the pairing from the beginning.
What to expect when moving from iPhone
iPhone-to-POCO migration is supported in Xiaomi’s Mi Mover guidance and in the POCO C40 setup documentation, but the route is more dependent on the exact model and the information Apple makes available to the transfer flow. The POCO may offer direct device copying, a cable-assisted path, or an account/backup path.
Do not assume that every iPhone app has an Android equivalent or that an app’s iOS data can be imported. The setup wizard and Mi Mover category list are the authoritative boundary: transfer what they explicitly offer, then reinstall or configure anything that remains on the POCO.
For any iCloud-assisted route, Xiaomi’s Mi Mover privacy policy says the service may handle the Apple ID, password and verification code needed to sign in, for the purpose of performing the transfer and without retaining them. This is Xiaomi’s policy description, not an independent security audit. Review the current policy and on-device consent screen, use the official app, avoid sharing credentials with anyone assisting you, and change a password if you suspect it was entered into an untrusted app.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Transfer individual files after setup
If the phone is already configured and you only need a few photos, documents or other files, Xiaomi Share may be more efficient than repeating a full migration. Xiaomi describes it as selected-file sharing with compatible devices, not as a replacement for Mi Mover.

For Apple-device workflows, Xiaomi’s FAQ states that the Xiaomi Interconnectivity app and Bluetooth may be required and describes a same-local-network requirement for its stated Xiaomi-to-Apple scenarios. Check the current compatibility and permissions on both devices, select only the files you intend to send, and confirm the destination before accepting. Use Mi Mover or the setup wizard when you need contacts, messages, call history, calendars, apps or a broad file set.
Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete transfer
The phones cannot find each other
- Confirm that the old phone is set as sender and the POCO as receiver; reversing the roles prevents the expected discovery flow.
- Turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on for both devices, bring them within arm’s reach and unlock both screens.
- Close a previous Mi Mover session on each phone, reopen it and generate a fresh connection.
- Restart both phones if the pairing prompt never appears. Compatibility can vary with the old phone’s model and operating-system version.
The transfer stops partway through
- Put both phones on charge while keeping them close. Xiaomi’s minimum recommendation is 30 percent battery, but a long transfer can still exhaust a nearly empty device.
- Keep Mi Mover in the foreground and disable settings that turn off wireless connections or suspend the app when the screen is idle.
- Check free storage on the POCO. Retry with a smaller category selection if the destination is nearly full.
- Run the latest available Mi Mover version on both devices where the model supports it, then begin a new session instead of resuming a corrupted one.
Some items are missing
- Compare the selected categories with the categories the app actually offered; a category absent from the list was not promised for that source phone.
- Check permissions on the old phone and rerun the transfer after granting the specific access requested for contacts, messages, calendar or files.
- For apps, open the POCO’s app store and the app itself. Reinstallation, an update or a fresh sign-in may be required even when the app entry copied successfully.
- For large files, inspect the destination storage and open several originals. A visible folder or thumbnail alone does not prove that every file copied.
You started setup but want to change methods
If the setup wizard is still open, use its back or skip controls only when the screen offers them; forcing a shutdown can leave setup incomplete. If you have already finished setup, use Mi Mover from the home screen or Settings rather than resetting the POCO solely to expose the initial copy screen. A factory reset erases the POCO, so back up anything already saved there and use it only when the model’s official instructions require a clean restart.
Privacy and account-safety checks
Xiaomi says Mi Mover’s transfer is local and peer-to-peer, with data sent between the phones rather than uploaded to a server. That statement describes Xiaomi’s support position; it is not an independently verified guarantee. The privacy policy says Mi Mover may process contacts, messages, call history, calendar events, apps and files for the transfer without storing or retaining them. It separately describes handling an Apple ID, password and verification code for an iCloud transfer without retention.
Before starting, read the current consent and privacy text displayed by your app version. Use only the official Mi Mover or model-provided setup flow, keep both phones under your control, and do not disclose a verification code to a person who is not operating the transfer with you. Afterward, review account sessions, important files and messaging history on the POCO. Keep the old phone intact until those checks are complete, then erase it through its normal factory-reset procedure before selling or recycling it.

A practical decision checklist
- Still on the welcome screen: choose the setup copy-data flow and follow the cable or no-cable path that your POCO displays.
- Setup complete and moving most of the phone: install or open Mi Mover on both phones, assign sender and receiver roles, select categories and use the local Wi-Fi Direct transfer.
- Only a handful of files: consider Xiaomi Share if both devices meet its compatibility, Bluetooth, app and local-network requirements.
- Using an iPhone: expect model-specific prompts, possible Apple-account verification and a category list that may not include every iOS app or private app datum.
- Using a cable: verify the actual ports and the prompt for your exact POCO and source phone; Xiaomi’s C40 guide does not establish one universal connector.
- Protecting the original data: verify contacts, messages, media, documents and calendars on the POCO before resetting the old phone.
