Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a dependable phone-to-phone transfer, use the official migration tool for your specific old-and-new phone combination, prepare both devices, and verify important data on the new phone before erasing the old one. A transfer can move a lot of content, but it is not a guaranteed clone of every app, account, and file.
Choose the transfer method for your phone pair
Start by identifying the exact source and destination models and whether each runs Android or iOS. The destination phone’s setup state matters too: some transfer prompts appear only during initial setup, while some manufacturer-specific options may work later.

| Phone transfer | Official starting point | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Android to iPhone | Apple Move to iOS | Follow the Android app prompts and choose “From Android” during iPhone setup. Apple documents wireless and cable options. |
| Android to Android | Google’s Android copy flow | Usually started during new-phone setup; Google says this general option may not be available afterward. |
| Android or iPhone to Pixel | Google Pixel transfer guidance | Use Pixel-specific instructions, which describe setup preparation and transfer options. |
| Android or iPhone to Samsung Galaxy | Samsung Smart Switch | Transfers into Galaxy phones; supported content and available routes depend on the connected device. |
If the new phone is already configured, check the instructions for that exact model and route before resetting it. A reset erases data already on the destination.

Prepare both phones before you start
- Back up or sync the old phone. Use the backup options available for your device and account. Google’s Pixel guidance recommends preparing and backing up before transfer.
- Check destination storage. Make sure the data you want will fit. Apple says transferred content, including content on an external Micro SD card, must fit on the new iOS device. Google says you can choose what to transfer if the destination lacks sufficient space.
- Charge and unlock both phones. Keep them nearby and available throughout the process. For wireless transfer, use the connectivity and setup flow specified by the manufacturer.
- Choose a compatible cable if transferring by wire. Confirm that it fits both phones and supports data, not just charging. Google notes an adapter may be needed for Android-to-Android transfer; Apple notes that Android USB settings may need adjustment for a cable move to iPhone.
- Keep the source phone usable but undisturbed. During Move to iOS, Apple warns that using another app or receiving a call on Android before completion can prevent content from transferring.
Follow the official setup flow
Android to iPhone
During iPhone setup, select “From Android,” then follow the prompts in Move to iOS on the Android phone. Apple lists contacts, message history and SMS, camera photos and videos, photo albums, files and folders, settings, bookmarks, mail accounts, WhatsApp messages and media, Voice Memos, call history, and calendars among the content that may transfer. This list is not a promise that every item will move from every device or configuration.

Android to Android

Handle chats and protected app data separately
Do not assume that a copied app includes its private data, sign-in session, or offline downloads. Messaging histories, authenticator accounts, banking apps, and files saved outside ordinary photo or document folders deserve separate checks. Re-authenticate apps when needed.
WhatsApp has its own phone-migration instructions, and the steps vary by direction and setup. Apple includes WhatsApp messages and media among the items Move to iOS can transfer; Google has also described an iPhone-to-Android WhatsApp history route. Follow the current WhatsApp instructions and the relevant phone-maker guidance, then inspect chats and media on the destination before retiring the source phone.

Verify the new phone before wiping the old one
Open the new phone and check the content that matters to you, rather than relying only on a completion message. Review recent and older photos, contacts, message threads, calendar entries, files, and essential app data. Test important apps and confirm you can sign in. Keep the old phone intact until these checks pass; transfer guidance does not guarantee that every item can be recovered if the source is erased.

If the transfer fails or an item is missing
- The transfer option is missing: Check whether the route is limited to initial setup. If the destination is a Pixel or Galaxy, consult its specific post-setup options before considering a reset.
- The cable is not detected: Confirm connector compatibility, use a data-capable cable, and check whether an adapter or Android USB-setting change is required.
- The destination runs out of space: Review the transfer selection and prioritize essential content. Google’s Android guidance allows choosing what to move when storage is insufficient.
- Apps or media are still appearing: Allow more time, keep both devices powered, and check for a pause or prompt on either screen.
- Chats or app data are absent: Use the app’s own migration or account-recovery instructions; a general phone transfer does not establish that protected app data moved.
