Use Huawei’s Phone Clone app to move selected data from an old Android phone to a Mate 90: set the Mate 90 as the new device, pair the phones, choose the data categories offered, and start the transfer. Huawei’s instructions describe Android-to-Huawei transfers generally, but do not specifically confirm Phone Clone support on the Mate 90, so first check that the app is available on your handset.
Before you start
- Charge both phones and keep them close together during setup.
- Check whether Phone Clone is installed or available on the Mate 90. Huawei documents finding it at Settings > System & updates > Phone Clone on devices with that menu. Its general instructions do not name the Mate 90 or confirm its software version. Huawei’s Phone Clone instructions and the Mate 90 specifications page do not establish Mate 90-specific migration compatibility.
- Check the Phone Clone listing in AppGallery for Android-version compatibility on the old phone; Huawei directs users to the app details screen for this information. Huawei Support
Transfer data with Phone Clone
- Open Phone Clone on the Mate 90. If it is not on the home screen, check Settings > System & updates > Phone Clone, if that menu is present.
- Set the Mate 90 as the receiver. Choose This is the new device, then select Other Android for a non-Huawei source phone. If the old phone is Huawei, choose Huawei.
- Prepare the old Android phone. Follow the Mate 90’s prompt to install or open Phone Clone, then choose This is the old device.
- Pair the phones. Scan the code shown on the Mate 90 or follow the manual connection instructions offered by the app. Huawei’s documented steps use the app connection and do not require a cable.
- Choose what to copy. Select the categories shown on the old phone and tap Next > Transfer, or the equivalent button labels in your app version. Keep the phones connected until the transfer finishes.
- Check the Mate 90 before retiring the old phone. Open important contacts, calendar entries, photos and videos. Reinstall apps or use each service’s own backup and restore steps if an app, its information or your sign-in did not transfer.
What Phone Clone can move—and what to verify
Huawei lists contacts, calendar items, images and videos as examples of basic data that can be cloned. The categories available depend on the two devices and their software. Huawei’s broader list includes some categories specifically for Huawei-to-Huawei transfers; do not assume those will appear when the source is another Android brand. If Phone Clone is unavailable or a category is missing
- If Phone Clone is missing from the Mate 90, search its settings or app list. The cited Huawei guidance does not establish a Mate 90-specific alternative procedure, so do not assume another transfer method is supported.
- If the old phone cannot install or run Phone Clone, check the AppGallery app details for supported Android versions. If the handset is outside the stated compatibility range, Phone Clone may not be an option.
- If a desired category is not offered, transfer only what the app makes available. For app data, accounts and content that remain behind, use the relevant app or service’s own backup and restore process.
- If a transfer is interrupted, reconnect through Phone Clone and review the categories and results on both devices before deciding what still needs to be copied.
