How do I transfer data from my iPhone to my Android phone?
Start the transfer during the foldable’s initial setup. The available screens and supported data vary by manufacturer, device and software version, so use the instructions displayed on your phone rather than expecting every Android foldable to have the same options.

1. Prepare both phones
- Charge both devices and keep them near each other.
- Connect the iPhone to Wi-Fi and make sure you can unlock it.
- Check that the foldable has enough available storage for the data you want to move.
- Allow time for the process. Google’s general estimate is usually less than 30 minutes, but a large transfer can take up to a few hours; that is an estimate, not a guarantee for an individual transfer. Google says, “Both devices must be connected to each other for the entire transfer process.”
2. Choose iPhone or iPad in Android setup
- Turn on the foldable and proceed through its initial setup screens.
- When asked whether to copy data, select the option for an iPhone or iPad.
- If the screen displays a QR code, scan it with the iPhone camera and follow the pairing prompts.
- If there is no QR option, follow the displayed instructions for a cable or supported wireless transfer.
- Keep both devices connected and follow any prompts to unlock the iPhone, enter a PIN or approve access.
Only some Android devices support QR pairing. If the code is absent, continue with the alternative offered on the foldable rather than treating that as a transfer failure.

No. Some devices support wireless transfer, but a cable generally covers more data categories than Google’s classic wireless option. Google also documents an upgraded transfer flow for eligible devices that can support additional categories over cable or wireless. Availability and results depend on the exact phone and software version.

For a cable, use the iPhone’s charging cable if it fits both devices. A USB-C to Lightning cable can connect a Lightning-equipped iPhone to a USB-C foldable; a USB-C iPhone needs a compatible USB-C cable. Google notes that some cable mismatches require an adapter, so check your existing cable before buying anything.
What can move?
In Google’s classic transfer comparison, cable supports categories that classic wireless does not, including messages, free apps available on Google Play, music, downloaded files, notes, voice memos, alarms and WhatsApp history. Google’s upgraded transfer route on eligible devices can support further categories, such as app data where the app developer permits it, call history, passwords and passkeys, Wi-Fi networks, and some items stored in iCloud. These are supported categories, not a promise that every item or app will transfer successfully on every foldable.

Can I transfer everything from my iPhone to a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold?
No single Smart Switch method transfers everything. Samsung documents transfers from iOS by cable, wireless, iCloud and PC-related routes, and the data coverage differs among them. Follow the current Smart Switch prompts for your Galaxy model and check Samsung’s Smart Switch support page for method-specific guidance.

How do I get my texts after switching from iPhone to Android?
Before removing the SIM from the iPhone, open Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage. Otherwise, Google warns that SMS or MMS messages may continue arriving on the old iPhone instead of the new Android phone. Some existing iPhone group conversations may need to be restarted as a new group chat.
If you already removed the SIM or cannot use the old iPhone, use Google’s linked Apple number deregistration page. If messages still do not arrive, check that iMessage is off on all iOS devices associated with your number and confirm the SIM or eSIM is active.

How do I move iCloud photos to Android?
iCloud-stored photos and videos are listed by Google as not transferring through the documented standard phone-to-phone flow. Use Google’s separate iCloud Photos transfer instructions if you want to move that library. This is a separate process, not something to assume will happen when the setup transfer finishes.
Google also lists paid apps and in-app purchases, Safari bookmarks, and Health data as items that do not transfer through the described standard flow. An Android version of an app may be available from Google Play, but paid purchases or subscriptions may require contacting the app developer. Treat app-specific data separately unless the transfer screen confirms it is supported.

What if the transfer fails or was skipped?
- No QR code: Use the cable or wireless method shown by the foldable. QR pairing is not supported on every Android device.
- QR scan or wireless pairing fails: Check that the iPhone has Wi-Fi and internet access, allow camera access if the app requests it, and try cable transfer if wireless is unavailable or unreliable.
- Not enough storage: Deselect large photo or video categories, or use a separate Google Photos sync route.
- You skipped transfer during setup: Some phones offer a “Finish setting up” option or a copy-data option under Settings > Accounts & backup. Availability varies; some models may require returning to setup or resetting the phone.
- WhatsApp history matters: Follow the on-screen after-setup prompt. Samsung says WhatsApp history must be transferred before signing in on the new phone, and the history is not included automatically in every transfer method.
- Messages are missing: Confirm iMessage is off on the iOS devices associated with your number and that the SIM or eSIM is active.
What should I check before wiping the iPhone?
After setup finishes, open the foldable and check the contacts, text messages, photos and videos you expected to move. Also verify any app-specific data you rely on. Keep the iPhone intact until you have confirmed the important items are available on the new phone and completed any separate cloud-photo or app migration.
