To move data from an iPhone to a new Android phone, start Android setup and choose the option to copy data from an iPhone or iPad. Use a compatible cable when possible: connect the phones, unlock the iPhone, tap Trust if prompted, select the data to copy, and leave both devices connected until the transfer finishes. Some Android phones also offer wireless transfer through Android Switch. What transfers depends on the method and device, so check messages, photos, and important app data before erasing the iPhone.
Choose a transfer method
Google recommends using a cable when one is available. A cable or adapter must match the ports on both phones: for example, a USB-C-to-Lightning cable may work with an Android phone that has USB-C and an iPhone that has Lightning. Newer iPhones may have USB-C, so no single cable fits every combination. Google’s switch guide and iPhone-to-Android instructions describe the available setup paths.

Transfer choices can differ by Android device and setup flow. If the new phone does not display the option you expect, consult the phone manufacturer’s current support instructions.
Prepare both phones
- Charge both devices and keep them near each other for the entire transfer.
- Make sure you can unlock the iPhone. Connect it to Wi-Fi; wireless transfer also requires internet access.
- Check that the Android phone has enough storage for the items you plan to move.
- If using wireless Android Switch, confirm the iPhone runs iOS 15 or later.
- Do not erase or trade in the iPhone yet. Keep it until you have checked the transferred data and incoming texts.
Google notes that some device-managed iPhones may not allow all data to transfer. Its current transfer instructions explain device and method-specific differences.

Copy data during Android setup
- Turn on the new Android phone and begin setup. Choose the option to copy apps and data from an iPhone or iPad.
- Follow the Android phone’s prompts. Some newer setup flows pair wirelessly using a QR code.
- For a wired transfer, connect the phones with a compatible cable or adapter. Unlock the iPhone and tap Trust if it asks whether to trust the connected device.
- For wireless transfer, scan the QR code shown on the Android phone and follow the Android Switch instructions.
- Select the categories offered on your phone and start copying. Keep both devices connected and nearby until Android says setup or transfer is complete.
What transfers—and what needs separate attention
Photos and videos
The device-copy process can transfer photos and videos available on the iPhone. Items stored only in iCloud are an exception to the standard device copy. Google directs users to a separate iCloud-to-Google-Photos transfer route; check whether important images are on the iPhone itself or only in iCloud before considering the move complete. Messages and iMessage
Message transfer depends on the method: Google says classic wireless Android Switch does not copy messages, while cable and the upgraded process support them. Google Android Help states, “You must turn off iMessage on your iPhone.” Turn it off when switching so messages can reach the Android phone, then check both existing threads and new incoming texts before retiring the iPhone.

Apps and app data
In supported flows, apps available at no charge on Google Play can transfer. The iPhone app itself is not copied as an Android app, and paid apps or in-app purchases do not transfer. App data varies by app and method. You may need to install the Android version, sign in, or use the app developer’s own migration or backup process.
WhatsApp and other content
Google describes a separate prompt and QR-assisted process for WhatsApp history. Follow the prompts and confirm that chats appear on Android; results can depend on app versions and backup state. Google’s method table also lists supported transfer for items such as contacts, calendars, music, downloaded files, notes, voice memos, alarms, and WhatsApp history, with availability varying by method. Safari bookmarks and Health data are listed as not transferring. Check the current Google table for your device and method.

Finish the move without losing anything
- Turn off iMessage on the iPhone, as Google instructs.
- Use Google’s separate process for photos stored only in iCloud, and complete the WhatsApp flow if you use it.
- Install Android versions of apps as needed, sign in, and check whether each app has its own restore or migration option.
- On Android, open important photo albums, contacts, message threads, and apps. Send or receive a test text if practical.
- Erase or hand over the iPhone only after confirming that the items you need are present and accessible on Android.
If the transfer stalls or an option is missing
Options and requirements vary by phone, and insufficient Android storage or connection problems can interrupt copying. Keep the phones connected, check available storage, and follow Google’s troubleshooting guidance if data will not transfer. If the Android setup flow does not offer the expected wired or wireless choice, use the phone manufacturer’s current support instructions.
