Build a Modern Warfare III (MWIII) loadout, inspect it in the Firing Range, then test it in multiplayer and adjust it for the map, mode, and way you play. That cycle is more useful than chasing a supposed “best gun”: the available official guides explain weapon tradeoffs and practice, but do not establish a current weapon ranking.
Start with a loadout that fits the match
Activision’s MWIII weapons and loadouts guide recommends tailoring a setup to the mode, map, and playstyle, then making use of the setup’s strengths. Think of the loadout as a system rather than a weapon alone: primary and secondary weapons, lethal and tactical equipment, Field Upgrade, vest, gloves, boots, and gear all contribute to how you approach a match.

If you are unsure where to begin, Activision suggests an Assault Rifle. The guide describes ARs as generally intended for medium range while remaining versatile at shorter and longer ranges. Treat that as a starting point, not a rule: the map, objectives, and your comfort with the weapon should shape the final choice.

Before taking an unfamiliar loadout into a match, use the in-game Firing Range to inspect how its weapon and attachments behave. Read attachment descriptions and consider what each choice trades away as well as what it adds. Activision cautions that a stat chart cannot fully communicate a weapon’s feel: a weapon may behave differently in practice than its displayed numbers suggest.

Keep the practice loop simple: choose a setup, test it, notice what feels awkward or effective, then revise one or more choices and try again. Once you have a workable baseline, use the setup in the mode and map it is meant for. Match experience can reveal issues that target practice alone will not, including whether the weapon suits the distances and pace you actually encounter.
Read weapon stats as tradeoffs
Activision’s loadout guide identifies damage, fire rate, range, accuracy, recoil control, mobility, and handling as useful categories when considering a weapon. Its November 2023 Gunsmith overview also lists rounds and reserve among the nine statistics shown there. A higher value in one category does not, by itself, make a weapon or build the better choice for you.

- Role and range: Decide what distances and situations you want the weapon to cover.
- Control and accuracy: Pay attention to whether you can keep shots on target while firing.
- Mobility and handling: Consider how the weapon feels while moving and bringing it into use.
- Damage and fire rate: Read them alongside the other categories, not as a standalone verdict.
- Rounds and reserve: These appear in Activision’s November 2023 Gunsmith overview and help describe ammunition capacity.
Activision’s guide puts the limitation plainly: “Numbers don’t always translate to feel.” Use the displayed information to narrow your choices, then test the weapon yourself rather than treating a chart as a complete prediction of performance.

Activision’s MWIII training guide builds from basic firing methods to more advanced tactics. Practice the basic methods first and give yourself time to become comfortable with them before adding extra techniques. The guide’s progression matters: advanced tactics are most useful when they build on reliable fundamentals, not when they distract from learning how a weapon handles.

Choose Tac-Stance for the right close-range situation
Tac-Stance is designed for aggressive close-quarters use. Activision’s August 2023 announcement describes it as less precise than full aim-down-sights (ADS), but more mobile and easier to handle. That makes it a situational choice rather than an across-the-board replacement for ADS: use it when the close-range mobility tradeoff suits the encounter, and rely on full ADS when its greater precision is more important.

A weapon is only part of multiplayer performance. Activision’s MWIII multiplayer guide encourages players to learn match flow, pursue objectives, and try different modes. For example, Domination centers on capturing, holding, and defending objectives; Hardpoint centers on capturing and holding the Hardpoint.

Use those mode goals to assess whether your setup suits the job. A loadout that feels comfortable while moving between fights may serve a different purpose from one you prefer when holding a position. After a match, identify a specific problem—such as difficulty controlling shots or a poor fit for the distances you faced—and make a focused adjustment before testing again.

What Gunsmith details are established
Activision’s November 2023 overview says most weapons can take up to five attachments and that Weapon Tuning was removed from MWIII Gunsmith following community feedback. Those are dated descriptions of the game’s mechanics, not a claim that every current interface or balance detail is unchanged. Check the current in-game Gunsmith if a particular option matters to your build.
The same overview names nine Gunsmith statistics: damage, fire rate, range, accuracy, recoil control, mobility, handling, rounds, and reserve. The figures and categories can help you compare possible setups, but they do not establish which weapon is currently strongest. No current ranking, controlled weapon comparison, win-rate data, or performance percentage is established by the official guides cited here.
