To trade directly between Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, connect two Game Boy Advance systems with a Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable. In each game, go upstairs in a Pokémon Center and use the Cable Club trade counter. The GBA Wireless Adapter is not compatible with these games.
What you need to trade
- Two Game Boy Advance systems: one running Ruby and the other running Sapphire.
- A Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable connecting the systems. Check that a cable is specifically compatible with Game Boy Advance systems; similarly named cables for the original Game Boy may not work.
- In each game, the Pokédex and at least two Pokémon in the party, according to the specialist walkthrough.
Use the two GBA systems for this direct method. A Nintendo DS is not a substitute, and the GBA Wireless Adapter does not work with Ruby or Sapphire.1

How to make the trade
- Connect the two Game Boy Advance systems with the Game Boy Advance Game Link Cable, with Ruby running on one and Sapphire on the other.
- In both games, make sure you have obtained the Pokédex and have at least two Pokémon in your party, as specified by the walkthrough.
- Enter a Pokémon Center and go upstairs. The Cable Club is on the second floor; speak to the attendant at the middle counter and choose the trade option. The game-connectivity reference confirms that the Cable Club supports link-cable trading between Ruby and Sapphire.
- Follow the on-screen prompts. The games will save, then let each player select a Pokémon, review the other player’s offer, and confirm the exchange.
Compatibility and other ways to move Pokémon
Language versions
Ruby and Sapphire have no language restriction on trading with each other. Restrictions on mixing records between Japanese and non-Japanese games are separate; they do not mean that the trade itself is blocked.Source
GameCube connection
Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness can connect with Ruby and Sapphire using a Nintendo GameCube–Game Boy Advance cable. This is a separate process through the GameCube game’s Trade Center, not the method for trading directly between the two GBA games.Source

Migration to a later game
Moving Pokémon from a GBA game to Pokémon Platinum is migration, not a Ruby–Sapphire trade. Nintendo’s Pokémon Platinum manual says migration requires the National Pokédex, and migrated Pokémon cannot be sent back to the GBA game.
